I couldn't find any pics of my own firehawk so I found this one on the net, mine is identical looking + a 99 SJ (still just stock blue) with a lot of stickers (makes it go fastttt:arms:), that reminds me, everyone bring scrapers to scrape my old PWCToday sticker (back when I got them from Rob)

What's the big deal ?? it's only pulling a 300 lbs SJ ....the back shocks don't even feel it.....it's just a car....same Crap :Flush: as the mustang and every other one.

No doubt.

I'll never understand why you would do that to a performance sports car. I can understand why you would do that to a Mustang, but a Firehawk?

You just don't get it.

Let me ask you this - What would you say if you saw a Corvette with a hitch pulling an SJ? Because that is pretty much what the 98+ Firehawk and Trans Ams are...

The Mustang is an entirely different story, only the Mach line of Mustangs and higher, including the Saleen's, are worthy of comparison. And you will rarely see a hitch on one of those.

The point is, the Firehawk is a car that you can take to the 1/4 mile and it would be expected. It is not, and was not meant to be, a utility vehicle in any way.

Go to LS1TECH.COM, an LSX enthusiast site, and find me an LS1 with a hitch on it.

You won't be able to, because finding a hitch on this car is like finding a three foot euro wing on a Corvette. They exist, are rare, and get a huge belly laugh everytime they are spotted.

What time are you going up? Maybe we can meet you on the e-way and go across together. :scratchchin:

Matt (Dirtybird), let's meet and convoy up, and anyone else. You are on the way for me. My plans were get on I-94 from Hall Rd. (M-59) and shoot north. Name the meeting place and time, and people will know to show up to travel and arrive together. :thinkerg: :fing02:

actually there is quite a few, do you really think that drawtite, reese and hidden hitch would make a hitch that only one sold (to me?)

not only have I taken the car to a 1/4 but also SOLO, and yes I enjoy the car and like to drive it to the beach and not just have a trailer queen sitting in a garage and collecting dust, I could just use my everyday driver (02 impala that already has a hitch) or my wifes cobalt to pull it but why if I can enjoy my weekend car on the weekend, and if you make a statement - support it. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean its wrong, for all I know you can be driving a supped up kia.

BTW my next weekend car will be a 911 or vette, and guess what? I already know who makes a hitch for either one of them.

Do you not think I understand the justification of a hitch on a firehawk? That was as predictable as the sunrise.

My point is simple. The car was not meant to pull anything. It has a boatload of torque, but was meant to serve a different purpose. If you know anything about the T56 or the ********ty 10 bolt, you'd realize that you're killing the drivetrain of the car.

I think you need to re-evaluate why you purchased that car, and the purpose you intend it to serve.

Sorry for the crazy talk about the hitch. It was kind of a joke. I wouldn't do it myself, but to each their own. Nice cars everyone!! Can't wait to ride!!

I guess I know a little then,

1. the good people at GM that spend millions designing the car rate for 1000# towing "power" as per the manual, but I what would they know, they only Designed the car,

2. T56 is easily rated for over 600# of tq, my setup (FIPK and cutout) puts out just over 350RWTQ or about 415FWTQ, hence its not an auto so it doesn't need a cooler and per manual NEVER needs an oil change (don't worry thats a regular change for me)

3. the diff (while not as good as the ford 12 bolt) will be fine as long as you don't push over 450RWTQ (although some people were fine around 500 with no complaints)

With that being said ski+trailer is ~350 pounds wet, of which I have 30 pounds on the tongue translating to two regular guys in back seat. So as far as brakes, diff, tranny, engine, shafts (including the aluminum driveshaft in my car) or the whole driveline if you will is concerned, its only two more occupants in the back seats (which in my car are removed). As for the suspension, 30# on the hitch is about 35# in the trunk or 50# in the rear seat which is half of girl. (all from simple trig forces)

Manual rated capacities are also extremely conservative for safety, four pistons up front can stop much more weight quick,
example, my buddy has a GTP and has been towing his twin engine speedster for years which is roughly (with trailer) 2.5 time rated towing capacity and thats with an auto.

Just because you think its wrong, it doesn't mean it is, it just your opinion which is fine as long as you don't enforce it on others.

plus we can talk about during a break from riding on Sat as I hate talking tech through boards (it just takes too long).

Props on how clean you WS6 is, even those Thrusts are shinny, nice choice of colour :beerchug: , mine is not that clean

SORRY EVERYONE FOR THE HIJACK

edit: PS. I even had the pleasure of discussing some of the issues raised here with one of the Engineers that designed the LS1, at the beach none the less with trailer still attached to the car.
