What are you riding and driving?

Sorry for the crazy talk about the hitch. It was kind of a joke. I wouldn't do it myself, but to each their own. Nice cars everyone!! Can't wait to ride!!

don't worry about it, I didn't take it personally,
I am used to educating people about american cars, especially the ones driving imports that think their car has the "best" MPG, you should see their faces when I explain to them that my american V8 gets 33 mpg on the highway with a trailer :biggrin::biggrin:

Well I'm still driving the same old blue ford truck that I've been taking to all of these rides.
As for skis I'll bring what ever runs, with luck two superjets and an sxr.

The truck pic is from FSF 2002 in MI and the ski pic is from Daytona this Jan.
Got to have a pic of the team ugly ski.

Later
Steve

I guess I know a little then,

1. the good people at GM that spend millions designing the car rate for 1000# towing "power" as per the manual, but I what would they know, they only Designed the car,

2. T56 is easily rated for over 600# of tq, my setup (FIPK and cutout) puts out just over 350RWTQ or about 415FWTQ, hence its not an auto so it doesn't need a cooler and per manual NEVER needs an oil change (don't worry thats a regular change for me)

3. the diff (while not as good as the ford 12 bolt) will be fine as long as you push over 450RWTQ (although some people were fine around 500 with no complaints)

With that being said ski+trailer is ~350 pounds wet, of which I have 30 pounds on the tongue translating to two regular guys in back seat. So as far as brakes, diff, tranny, engine, shafts (including the aluminum driveshaft in my car) or the whole driveline if you will is concerned, its only two more occupants in the back seats (which in my car are removed). As for the suspension, 30# on the hitch is about 35# in the trunk or 50# in the rear seat which is half of girl. (all from simple trig forces)

Manual rated capacities are also extremely conservative for safety, four pistons up front can stop much more weight quick,
example, my buddy has a GTP and has been towing his twin engine speedster for years which is roughly (with trailer) 2.5 time rated towing capacity and thats with an auto.

Just because you think its wrong, it doesn't mean it is, it just your opinion which is fine as long as you don't enforce it on others.

plus we can talk about during a break from riding on Sat as I hate talking tech through boards (it just takes too long).

Props on how clean you WS6 is, even those Thrusts are shinny, nice choice of colour :beerchug: , mine is not that clean

SORRY EVERYONE FOR THE HIJACK

edit: PS. I even had the pleasure of discussing some of the issues raised here with one of the Engineers that designed the LS1, at the beach none the less with trailer still attached to the car.

Well, atleast I can feel comfortable that you actually know what you're talking about, unlike most of the f-body owners I encounter; even if a hitch on the car makes me cringe.

I`ll be taking subway, I still need find a hitch....

I hope our Ontario gov`t will expand the public transportation to Ipperwash by saturday....

Haha I guess you didn't watch the debate. Hier Dalton said that 2cents of your gas tax has been going to public transportion for the last 4 years. There should be 3 buses going to ipperwash by now.
Oh wait maybe he meant that he took 2cents of everyones gas tax and improved Ottawa public transport

Ill be driving a maroon FJ cruiser, towing a 04 sxr and an old 650 for the wife. My buddies will be in jetta and a wagoneer, one with a 95 squarenose, the other with an old 650 and 550.

I`v been tracking the election very closely.... I see another Dalton`s fan ;)

in that case I`ll get Adam to tow my ski , too
he lost me with all his tech explanation but sounds like he`ll be ok with it..

Don't put a hitch on a car? What a joke!!

If towing a superjet, or even a couch for that matter was going to break a vehicle, you're driving the wrong car. I have seen 3 cylinder Geo's pulling utility trailer. It may look redneckish, but if I had a Lambo, or Ferarri, I would proudly hook up my SJ and tow it to the beach (may launch with a cart though).

Its just a car, its a tool with wheels, it does not have feelings and will not be embarassed how it looks, or if the SJ makes the rear end look fat.
