Personal preference in my opinion. I run riser bars on my RJ and love them, lot of people hate them. If you run risers you will need a turn plate that accepts 1 1/8 inch bars though, others are the standard 7/8s.
There are a lot of options and I can't tell you which are best. I personally run 0* UMI bars, but I don't know that I wouldn't like something better.
The best I can do to help is give you some options...
stock sweep 7/8 bars
4* 7/8 bars
0* 7/8 bars
straight tube 7/8 bars (AM turn plate or modify the stocker. Same as 0* bars but move you forward)
1-1/8" riser bars (Come with and without sweep. With sweep must be run in one position. Without sweep can be rotated to any position you like)
1-1/8" straight tube (Allows you to use straight tube with your riser bar steering)
All 1-1/8" bars reduce down to 7/8" on the ends to fit normal sized grips, electronics and throttles.
Yeah, just keeps you from getting jammed up in the bars. Can't get very aggressive or off the side of the ski with the stock sweep. Nice thing about 4* or 0* is they can be purchased used inexpensive. The fat bar options are going to run you a lot more money because you also have to buy a turn plate to accept them. The straight bar is a good option because it moves you steering about 2" to the nose and can be done (at least on a RN turn plate) with a drill and a couple of bolts.
I got the blowsion 0 degree bars for my square nose. They bolted right on to the stock turn plate and i loved the bars. They are quite wide (an inch or so wider than x-metal) which really helps with stability and forces you to keep your weight a little more forward.
Anyone running riser bars on a race ski? I was thinking about getting a set of bars with no sweep, so I can rotate them back like stock style 0* bars when racing, and up when riding in the surf. Also wondering what it would be like to race with the bars up, I would imagine it would be weird. Anyone do this before?
