Super Jet What causes a "sucked in" gas tank?

My son and I were riding yesterday when his SN pooped out. It took a while to get it started as it would only run with whatever amount of gas you pushed through with the primer. Eventually it got going and we took it back to shore to pop the hood. The tank was all sucked in, of you know what I mean. I opened the gas cap and yanked the little vent off the nipple. The tank still is holding the dented in shape, which I guess I am going to have to pop out physically.

So what would have caused it to create such a vacuum that it did this? Could his little breather hose that runs up the pole have gotten pinched?

bad tank vent
or the vent line is kinked or crushed somewhere
or oem water separator on breather line is completely full of water

That is what I was thinking. I disconnected it from the tube that runs up the pole. Ski ran fine the rest of the day. I was hoping that when I popped the gas cap off the tank it would go back to its original shape, but it looks like it will need some 'persuading'.

i had one fail once on a hot day, it suck the tank into half its size and had a nice lean siezure while it was at it... lol

I dont run those check valves anymore, just a looped up hose that points down at the end.
