Super Jet What causes bendix to sometimes slip when you crank the engine?

Dont let it go....fix it asap. I ignored it and it engaged midride, trashed my brand new stator and flywheel.

Did you use a new oem front cover gasket ? I use a thin layer of grease on both sides of the gasket...

Did you by chance forget the spring the holds the bendix?
95% of the time its a poor ground that doesn't aloow the starter to spin up fast enough. Replace that (it doesn't hurt to if it fixes prob or not) and see how that goes. I find if everything else is ok, it's usually a poor earth or a sticky brush in the starter motor.
I've decided to buy a new bendix.After replacing the 2 bushings, a spring and 2 washers that go in the hole of the front cover, the bendix sounded strange a few times when first starting the engine . So I decided to order a new one. After finished the payment, it started just fine no disengage, no strange sound till now. what the hell! But anyway, I've ordered it so I'll go with the new one. My question is "do I have to put some grase on the new one before put it in the motor?

Good move just to replace it, especially with a high dollar flywheel. The internal springs lose tension and the bendix starts to sag over time. Keep your old one as a spare. I take 90w gear oil and fill the bendix with it. Then blow out the excess gear oil with compressed air, it coats everything nicely and does not cause the bendix to stick like grease can. Grease the bushings on the cases and mag cover.

I'm with Watty, sounds like a bad ground.
update! putting the new oem bendix including new bushings, new spring, new washers, tried starting the enginge, BAM! started right up, no disengage. I tried 2-3 times then put the ski in the garage. A week later which was yesterday before going to the lake, I prepared my ski, charging the battery,filled the gas, blah blah blah....then starting the engine, the first time it was disengaged again hummm...but it started just fine after that. So i went to the lake, the bendix disengaged a lot, I mean many, many times. Everyting is new, so I guess it must be a bad ground or from the battery quick siconnect terminal that I use. I'll try changing to bolting the terminals and see if it helps.
