What causes stator ground to fail?

Troubleshooting a blaster and the ebox ground from the stator is no longer grounding to the engine. I have not pulled the flywheel yet, what is the cause of this?

Okay, I had forgotten what the back of a stator actually looked like, wasn't sure how it grounded out. Looking at one now and I am thinking that terminal may have broken or the stator could have come loose from the cases. Is there something else I may be missing?

sometimes the wire will break from viberation at the point where it goes through the stator grommet , its not noticible because the insulation is still good , this has been my experience

I have also seen them with an internal break. Even if the stator is loose it should still be grounded (pretty much has to be touching metal in there). You can run a wire between the box and engine just for diagnostics...

IMG_1391.jpg Check all your wires on your lighting & exciter coil at the solders if you think it may be at the stator. or any failure where metal or debris has danced around in the flywheel area ,any break in the continuos wind of either coil wire will cause it not to work

I have yet to determine that the stator is not functioning because, like I said, the ground circuit has failed. Ski ran fine up until that point but due to a no ground situation it doesn't even crank, I think the rest of the stator function should be fine. I will likely not be just adding a temporary ground and testing because I found a couple other issues inside his flywheel cover.
