what crank rebuild should i go with?

im on a budget here and my crankshaft seems pretty clapped out... one of the bearings makes noise too. i think its stock. my question is what should i choose for a rebuild? sbt is really cheap which seems appealing to me. are they any good? or should i just try and go another route motor wise? my top end seems to be in good shape still with one season on it. im not sure what i should do with my motor for next season. any input would be awesome! oh ya i have a 61x motor with wiseco pistons and some port matching.

thanks,
Brad

I have been pleased with getting an OEM crank rebuilt, trued, and welded by Crankworks.
It cost about $520. I have been steered clear of Hotrods.

Depends on your budget.
You're not going to sell a bad OEM crank for a significant amount of money.
SBT just rebuilds OEM cranks.
They change the webs, bearings, and rods to cheaper parts, turning it into a usable rebuilt crank. If all you got is $250 bucks, go with an SBT crank.
If it were me, I'd go with an OEM crank rebuilt to OEM specs or better.
I was faced with this very choice a few months ago.
My OEM crank blew, taking out the topend in my fairly new big bore engine.
My choices at the time:
Buy new OEM crank ($1000) - cost prohibitive for me
Buy new Hotrods crank ($400)- questionable quality, cracking webs
Buy SBT crank ($250ish) - quality not good enough for my application
Have OEM crank rebuilt by Crankworks ($520) - best choice for me, best quality

If you shop around, which I wasn't doing at the time.
Besides, even at that price Crankworks is still cheaper and better. OEM cranks don't come trued & welded.

I got a cheap SBT one last summer and it held up good for me. The SBT crank is $195 not $250 I think. They did charge me a lot for shipping I cant remember if it was $100 or not but that also includes the return shipping for sending your old crank back to them. Also the SBT crank is tured and welded. IMO it is a good cheap crank.

I got mine rebuilt by crankworks, good quality, but honestly I wont be going back to them. They dicked me around for about 8 weeks, seems like they are disorganized there. I'm sure if I was buying a billet crank I would of got different treatment but I'm just an average guy. When they finally got it back to me, I found that they forgot to put the collar on the crank that the rear seals ride on.

On a budget - SBT.

Impressed with it so far (though haven't run it). Picked one up a couple weeks back for a surf motor.

$195 + $70 return shipping of a core - $265 total for a mint rebuilt crank.
