What do you imagine you would spend to make a SJ Freeride ready?

I was crunching some numbers a thinking about a SJ. How much do you imagine you would spend on a stock SJ for aftermarket parts to make it surf, freestyle ride ready? Not including the stock SJ. I 'm thinking 701, non-ported, bullet proof, and able to hook in the surf, and flat water. For new parts I'm thinking over 5K plus paint!

Freeride, 5k? :lmao:

B-Pipe $700
Bilge pumps $40
Tubbies $300
Hoodstraps $15
Pole limiter $15
One way $30
Rideplate $100
Intake grate $100
Impeller $250
Get stock head milled $50

Total $1,600

Sure, you can add other stuff like straight bar steering, UMI, whatever - but with the above, you'd have a nice freeride SJ.

2-2500 depending on your prices.

i think ive got that into mine with b pipe, head, reinforcement, footholds, turf, bars, grips, throttle, tubbies, tbm pump setup w freeride skat big hub prop all the stupid billet add ons like pissers, bow eyes, bilge fittings, electric bilges, and a bunch of other little things that add up.

its all the supplies and stuff that get you...especially with fiberglass, foam, glue, brushes, gloves, tubes of 5200

and this is just for a very mild limited

its very easy to spend more im just giving my personal opinion here

You can throw thousands into the boat if it makes you feel better:biggthumpup:

I bought a NICE 98 RN with some stuff already on it for 3500.00, swapped some parts/some money, had a real nice ported 701 strong as death and only had 6000.00 total in the whole thing, pole, hood kit, motor work, etc.

Now I am sooooooo freeegin far over the top-I don't like to think about it or talk about it. It scares me. LOL Lets just say it's a little over twice the first number I typed above.

It is a black hole in the water that will swallow your time, then your money, then your mind, and then you. Get out while you still can!

Haha I think Matt's list is pretty good, but it's hard not to upgrade.

Power and Agility
Just do the basics to your ski. Head, pipe, skat swirl or concord cutback prop, enhancer, footholds, and your set. Shortening your pole is free, and the stock pole is hard to beat and is light compared to others offered out there.

That list of mods right there is all you need for most if not all freestyle maneuvers even for flatwater. Remember all you need is a boat that is enough power for your skilll. Its always better to have more skill than power, but that will be sufficient for your needs!!!!!!

i only just fired up my ski for the first time this season today...and im already thinking of mods for next winter lol...

my bank account hurts

like Gill said,u can find a ski done for cheaper than buying the parts new...i just dumped close to 9000.00 in parts alone, and still have more to buy..never mind the race sled i traded to get the ski,and i ow 6000 tho on that lol.so that trade got me a hull pretty
much cause i redid the entire ski.If i could go back and new what i know now...i could of done this cheaper by getting a mod ski off the bat, meaing used.Obv some parts need to be new but try to buy used to save money.Pipes, carbs, manifold, plates

Are you thinking about selling the sxr or just getting a second ski? Honestly the route droc took I think he'll have a pretty bulletproof, lightweight ski for well under 5k and it will feel like a rocket out of hell compared to the sxr. No matter what I'm glad you're having these thoughts, lol. Can't wait to start riding with ya Brian.

Why cant you just take a stock SJ? I wouldn't, that would be silly. But, what makes it a "freeride ready" ski? Surley a ski with an upgraded engine can do the same stunts a stock one can. But im newb, so enlighten me :)

If you lurk around for steals and deals you can get it done for cheapo.

Ive spent about $2600 on my boat. Thats including the price of the boat.

its ported 61/62t,
Triton head,
b pipe,
splashed REV footholds,
AC pole,
straight bars and turn plate,
OP rideplate and steering nozzle,
13/16-3 solas
WW cone
Rad Charging wheel
Boysen carbon reeds
riva toploader
OP flame arrestors
Louies Tubbies
lowered hood
Dual Rules

Its all just a matter of trying to find deals and steals and how much stuff you can make, fabricate, or glass on your own.

As for paint. Thats for losers.

Freeride ski

If you spend more time building or modding than actual riding the ski then maybe you should rethink things a little or call it Free-build not Freeride. Some of the skis are really cool looking but just go out and pull the trigger once in a while and give the tools a rest.
