What do you put on your pump seal?

I have always used silicone but I'm sick of cleaning it off with every pump/prop change and I'm not sure it's necessary.

I know yamaha says to put the seal on dry but for some reason that doesn't sit well with me.

I'm considering using a little grease instead of silicone.

Post up what you do, why, and how it has worked for you please.

dry if it's clean, you normally get good seal compression anyways. Never thought of marine grease but silicones to messy a clean up, only if/when needed.

The real question is, how do you compress ur pump seal? I feel like mine is impossible. Anyone ever just use straight silicone? Lol

On my Freak I use 5200 on the hull side grease on the pump to seal. My pump sits kinda crooked when aligned with the CF alignment tool and fortunately I rarely remove the pump. To compress the seal and the seal pump to shoe I leave the 4 bolts somewhat loose take a ratchet strap wrapped around pump underneath ski to bow eye crank up tight then tighten 4 bolts recheck alignment. cleanup 5200 and she is sealed.
