Whats going on guys...
I need a new vest as my favorite vest finally bit the dust and tore apart. Ive done alot of research on old threads but none of them are really recent mainly 2011-2012 I need to grab a vest asap for surf riding. I have mainly had neoprene vests but also had my fair share of nylon. Want something comfy, doesnt ride up, not to bulky but I def want a coast guard approved one. I talked to Zack about the Burn Industries vest but they were having stock issues. I researched the Helium swat vests and a few jetpiolet ones. Lets hear what make and model you like for the 2014 season. experience ect.

Thanks in advance for all your input... best info is always from fellow riders in the sport

Been wearing a Jet pilot "freedom" version or something. The blue/red/white one on sale now. Its not bad. A little bulky. But pretty nice, I wish it was longer tho.. I'm only like 5'11 6 foot and it feels short for a large. My buddy wears a Wake Board vest. I kinda want one cause they looks so thin and maneuverable. Anyone use them? Experiences?

That helium swat vest is sweet. I just did a google search. Is it really coast guard approved? looks like a comp vest to me. The american flag color scheme one is awesome. Just went and bought a new vest two weeks ago, and now after seeing that one I am so bummed I wasted the money on the one I bought lol.

Its more about the floatation or lack thereof. I sold a burn industries comp vest that wasn't coast guard approved because it wouldn't float me unassisted. Lost of reports of guys getting knocked unconscious and drowning because their vest didn't float them. They sure do look cool though

@Freakrider We ride right around the bend from the coast guard station n they don't like us riding surf sometimes they will bust balls if someone complains. But most off I want it for floation. We ride late after noon to night time and we have a 10 min ride back to launch ramp we have had sunk skis, skis break or run outta gas n we have got stuck floating or swiming so I wont wear a vest that wont float me if I need it in emergency

I see your point under those conditions. Other near shore n launch riding some guys want the minimal slim comfort option.

i was knocked out once wakeboarding wearing a jetpilot cellblock vest. flipped me right over and i was ok. it fit well and didnt rub my arms from swimming...chasing tow rope and ski in surf.

I wear a burn industries side entry vest thats coast guard approved and like it. Its not as comfy as my A-10 but I trust it to keep me floating if I cant. I ride mostly with friends in a river or at busy private lake but I still dont trust that someone will stop if they see me floating face down, not worth the risk. Crazy how your opinions change when you have kids, I even wear a helmet if Im trying any stunts now lol

Slippery Rev side entry. I used to wear a comp vest (see for sale section), but for one where I ride guys have had their life vest checked. Two, like other's said=Safety! it really didnt float me unassisted and it is very easy for a bad thing to happen in a quick second on the water. Rather just be safe, than look cool. My jacket I wear now is very comfortable.

What the chance an Officer is going to check your vest if coast guard approved ? I have never seen or heard of that here in Florida. Not being smart, asking ?
Not sure about Florida but I got a ticket for non CGA vest last year (along with 3 other warnings haha) and he mentioned that he was watching me earlier in the day (from a distance) and the thickness of my vest (Jetpilot A-10) was the first thing he noticed. And I agree with the safety aspect of a CGA approved one now especially after losing my ski in some pretty big surf at the Daytona Freeride in 2013 and trying to stay afloat with my wetsuit boots full of water.
