I am new to the sport, I see alot of people talking about a girdled cyl head. What exactly is this(difference between regular head), and what are the advantages of it? Thanks.
A girdled head has studs that secure the head to the cases via the cylinder bolts as well as the regular head bolts effectively sandwiching the cylinder between the head and cases. The sandwich prevents cylinder cracking primarily on ported high compression motors.
Girdled - notice the long studs going into the cylinder.
