What is this part that fell out of my flywheel cover

a little back story, I beached my ski today a little to fast and filled the pump up with sand. I leaned the ski over to clear out the water and the starter just clicked. At that point I realized I needed to clear out the sand. Once it was clear it clicked one more time then wouldn't click at all. I figured the bendix got binded up so I pulled the flywheel cover and a half circle thick piece of metal fell out.

Anyone know what this is?

Yeah, its the flywheel key... it keeps the flywheel from spinning on the crankshaft... if you pull the flywheel you'll see where it goes..

Sorry I have really bad service and cannot upload a picture, it's not a woodruff key, it's actually more like a 1/4 of a circle and is about an inch and a half long.

No idea man... it doesnt look like it broke or sheared off anything... maybe a flywheel weight? But ive only seen them more flat
