I had these in the basement, almost forgot about them. I got them as a bundled deal with some stuff I bought awhile back.

Are these tubbies? They look small. How do you install them? Do they need to be filled with foam?

I'm fairly sure they are R&D front racing sponsons. They don't need to be filled. Just screw and bond them to your hull.

I think those are rear sponsons that are installed under the rail on the rear.

I ran outside for a test fit

Too big, the rail doesn't fit under the back rail. Also there is more of a concavity to them that looks unnatural back there.

They sure look like tubbies.... on a diet. They look thin, dont stick out much.

They are front R&D sponsons. I had a pair I had to pull off a project ski that the guy used like half an inch of car bondo to install. :smashfreakB:

it wouldnt be the first time i was wrong, but im pretty sure...

They do NOT hang below the hull. Having them hang below the hull would not handle well or be allowed for racing.

These were made before tubbies, and were not meant for freestyle. 96-07 RN hulls handled a little better at high speeds, but not as good as they do with wider sponsons.

ok, ill accept that. maybe what i saw was rear sponsons? it was on a 550, they where a clear thin plastic and i could of sworn they hung down below the hull.

WDK made the clear sponsons, which were very similar in function to the R&D sponsons. They served their purpose, but newer designs perform better.
