What mods can you see?? My new RN

Well yesterday I went and picked up my new to me 96 super jet. Well actually the vin says 97 and so does the pink slip. The registration says it was built in 96 but is a year 97. So what year is it?

Ok so I'm super stoked!! I use to own a 90 square nose with a 650. I put a pipe and some aftermarket stuff on the old 650 but just found it to be underpowered all the time. I rode the heck out of it until I met up with a guy out on the Delta that let me ride his RN that had a 701 ported to a 760 and all the goodies. Well the next day I had my square up for sale because I just could not go back to such an underpowered ski compared to the one I rode. So for the last year of so I have been looking very hard for a RN with mods and in pretty good condition.

I found this one and it seems to be built pretty well and runs awesome!! I have not ridden the ski yet because I need to get some CF numbers and register it. I tried to get all the details I could from the owner on all the mods so I can keep a list of the parts and brands if I ever have problems. I would really appreciate your advice on this ski. I am wanting to do mostly freestyle type ridding with it. I plan on installing some foot holds and new Hydoturf as my first project. Ill post some pics of the ski and hopefully everyone can let me know what aftermarket parts you can see in the engine compartment. Let me know what you think about the mods and if they are toward freestyle ridding or not.

Here is what I know so far about the mods "I think"

Engine 701 bored and ported by protec to a 760. Owner says 84.5 or 85 mm pistons. What would that equal out to in CC's? I also got the 701 cyl's and pistons that were original. They have a mild port job done and are 61x cyls and are 2 over.

pipe, He says Factory type 9 but I'm not sure. It does not have an electronic injector. Factory pipe manifold.

Head is a protec Girdle setup. Not sure on the dome cc's. Right now the engine is showing 160 on the front and 165 in the rear with my compression gauge with both plugs out and full throttle.

Carbs are 44mm Black Jack carbs.

Intake manifold is a R&D.

Not sure what type of reed spacer is has.

AC racing pole??

UMI bars and turn plate.

Bilge 360.

Protec Drop nozzle. I would like to invert this.

Not sure on the impeller. Can you tell what brand?

Works intake and ride plate but not sure if they are good or not.

Hull has tubbies II's that are glassed in.

Ok sorry for the long post. Would love to lean more about the ski. Let me know what you think as well. Thanks.
Garrett

More pics. The hood is 15.8 pounds. I cant tell if the inside is modded. The pipes are gone but it looks like maybe some type of insert is installed.

Congrats on the new ski :)

The intake grate looks great, the ride plate looks like it's extended... i'd go to a stock one and then d-cut it later if you like *assuming you are doing freestyle?*. The hood doesn't have tubes leading to bottom of hull which could cause water ingestion.

That's my newb eye/opinion :)

Todd, thank you very much for the help. Ill see if I can find a stock plate and give it a try as well. I will also try and find some tubes tomorrow and run them to the bottom of the hull or midway down because I dont want any water injestion. Cant wait to see if this has any :brap:

personally if it runs great than leave it alone...I know guys are getting good power from dry pipes which is what you got, not sure what type it is though. I would check on the pitch of your impeller to find out exactly what it is. Looks like possibly a swirl, if its more geared towards top end than I would get impros to rework it for you. Otherwise install some holds and go ride.

Hood appears stock to me, no insert, just no tubes. Looks like a nice clean boat. Enjoy it!

looks like a very well put together boat....clean her up and give it a bit of TLC and it will be smokin'!!!

ill bet there is an MSD enhancer or modded CDI in that ebox as well....

get rid of those AP designs mats, put in some footholds and returf....and call it a day! maybe some stock airboxes and get rid of the tauceti's..

for sure though...put some breather tubes in that hood insert of you will be dumping water right into the carbs...

Went out today and started cleaning up the ski and trying to make sure everything is 100%. I also went to a RV store and picked up some 3.5" tubing that is nice and thin for the hood. I'm also in need of a new waterproof bilge switch. I just cant get the one on the ski working. It looks like the rotary switch that Riva sells. Bilge works fine.

The wire where there is usually a fuse in the electrical box is soldered together with shrink tubing. I was thinking of soldering a new fuse holder in place but was not sure what size fuse I should install. What do you guys think?

p.s. thanks for the help so far.

Would anyone happen to know what cylinders and case I have on this sky by looking? When I bought the ski I also received another set of cylinders that are 61x and a crank that came in a hotrods box. The crank says 6m6 on the counter balances and 64x on the rods. I don't know if this is a OEM crank or a Hot Rods crank. Maybe Hot Rods reconditions OEM cranks?? If you know what type of crank this is let me know.
Thanks for the help, trying to learn as much about the ski as possible.

Garrett

nice looking machine torqen might be worth putting a coupler cover on though dont want any water that may get in splashing up and into the carbs

I was looking at the coupler and wondering if it would throw water. I'm not sure if the cover will fit because it has one of the bilge brackets and pump sitting right there. Does anyone know if the cover will still fit with the bilge setup? I might be able to cut the cover to clear this. Also will any cover fit or only 96+ RN?

I rode with the previous owner and I can personally say that your ski rips!!! Goes through a tank of gas very quick, but well worth it. Have fun with it.

Jake, do you think that the ski went through fuel so fast because of the dual 44mm Black jacks? I'm not a full out race guy so the throttle will be back unless doing some :brap: LOL. I also wanted to see how the fuel system was hooked up so I took the tank apart and found that about half the tank is foamed. I wonder how much volume this is taking up? Ill have to drain the tank and see how much it takes.

Ive been cleaning the ski and making sure its all good to go. Might take it out this afternoon if I get a chance. Thank so far for all the advice,
Garrett

Garrett,
I never knew that the tank was foamed. Interesting. That could possibly be the reason. Those dual blackjack 44 are very thirsty though on that set up. Definetly take it out and gauge how long you can ride before refueling. Congrats on the new ski and I really think you'll like it. I definetly considered buying it. Let me know how much fuel that tank takes with the foam. I'm really interested in that. Thanks.
