Blaster What mods to do???

First off I'm new to the jet ski world. I bought a blaster about a year ago and didn't get to ride much until lately. Most of the time I'm riding surf and was wondering how to get more low end power out of a blaster? When I'm landing off mediocre sized waves I noticed the ski doesn't have enough grunt to get itself back up on top of the water. If I'm having trouble on smaller wave landings, I can only imagine the problems I'm going to be facing on bigger waves. So what can I do to wake up an all stock ski?

Pipe, intake grate, rideplate would be my first choices if your a surf rider. Don't need a ton of power, just enough to get you outta the situations you mentioned. The mods I listed should def help, and are a huge improvement over stock. No need to go crazy with porting or big bore if your just a rec rider, but extra HP and hook up are invaluable.

Thanks for the help man. The only thing I have is a jet dynamics ride plate. I D-cut my stock one before I got the jet dynamics one and I definitely noticed a difference. Should I D-cut the JD plate or leave it how it is?

JD stuff is pretty good out of the box, I don't ride surf, so it's hard to say. I'd focus on a pipe, intake grate. Pipe will make a HUGE difference, especially if your fortunate enough to get a factory B-pipe setup. Wouldn't say it's free HP, as the pipes bring in top dollar, even used and don't last long for sale. By far the best mod you can do, if you can swing the 600-700 to do so. Simply unbolt existing exhaust, bolt on factory pipe, change some jets and bam, totally different ski. Idk about the blaster pipes, but the sj pipe claims a 19 HP gain on simply a factory pipe and rejet. Big motors in surf are overkill for standups, but I'm not a blaster or surf guy. Just know most of the O-side guys who ride surf regularly, run limited 701's and go huge!

Too many variables there, I'll let the blaster guys answer that one as I have no idea what stock pitch is. A ss impeller is also a huge improvement over the aluminum one, stock ones flex and get eaten up by cavitation. Def another great mod for rec riding and will make a world of difference. Just need the right pitch for your needs/applications/motor and pump setup. It's like a muscle car, no one mod will make it perfect, it's a combo of several things, all tuned to work together.

hey mate. id get a msd enhancer, a set of reeds and a lighten fly wheel. if you can afford the pipe its definitely worth getting a factory mod pipe. these cheaps mods excluding ther pipe make a massive difference in bottom end and responsiveness. also the intake grate is good but i dont think essential as the most aggresive worx intake grate is quite expensive that is what i use. as for impellor i use a large hub solas 12/18 but i have near on 800cc and porting, pipe, head etc etc. with some thing basic i would just use the original impellor but make sure your clearance is acceptable. i hear hooker props are getting good results for basic setups.

A pipe makes a huge difference in power, Also if you put a prop on it it will make a big change. The prop you want is a Hooker 10/16, great all around prop and the worx 201 intake grate is perfect for surf. I wouldnt run any MSD parts i hear they cause nothing but headaches, if you hit the rev limiter send your CDi in to protec and have them mod it for you. You can also send your flywheel and nozzle into #zero here on the X and he can lighten the flywheel and taper bore the nozzle, those will both help with bottom end a little.

If you cant find the factory pipe, the Riva Red Pipe is another option. Cheaper and probably a little more plentiful. The Riva has some good bottom end, but is heavy and prone to breaking mounts or coming apart at the flange if not properly installed. I've had one for several years with no issues once it was installed right.

Another board member to reach out to for parts is JetManiac. He has everything for the 701.

Any pipe is better than stock. MSD enhancers are great. WORX intake grates are nice, I prefer the Solas so that is what I ended up with on both of mine. Jet Dynamics ride plates all the way on flat, flush mount stocker in the surf for me. Skat 12/18 on my boat fully ported 718 with single 46, gives good snap and decent top end. Hooker 11/17 5 mm cut back on wifey's Jetworks 710 with dual 44's, a lot of top end and mid, I think it is loading the pump to hard with the cut back. All #ZERO's stuff is great and he is very helpful. Have fun

both my B1's have SS impellers and i've always thought they came SS stock on em?

i vote factory B pipe (w/ carb rejet of course), lighten the flywheel (group K), shave stock head (group K again)....

B1s did come from yamaha with a SS impeller, which rules. They're a pretty good impeller but the hooker 10/16 is the one I recall most of the rec riders using.

For power I'd say go with a riva red pipe but you MUST install it properly or you'll end up cracking it like was mentioned. Everything needs to be shimmed so it fits perfect before you tighten it down and you should red loctite and safety wire your bolts from the head pipe to the chamber. The B-pipe is cool and makes nice power, and I'll admit it is easier to work on for sure.. but for less than half of the price I'd much rather run the red pipe. Since there's no coupler in the pipe you can also really get it cookin without hurting it. If you leave the stock carb on there and run a red pipe I can let you know where to start off with your jetting, unless you run a duals set up. Then I have no idea haha.

MSD enhancers are great and I've never personally had a problem with one. I do know of one that died on a friend though, so it happens. Luck of the draw I guess.

Intake grate is a must too. Jet dynamics is the one everyone seems to love. I've ridden a couple blasters with them but their setups were so different than mine I can't really say how much better than mine they were. I can say that I really don't like the riva one which I have on my current blaster so avoid that if you can.

With a prop, pipe, msd, and intake grate you should be able to get a pretty decent amount of power and solid hookup.
