Super Jet What the F is going on with the ADA head studs??

Little known fact: All stainless steel can in fact rust. Stainless steel readily forms an oxide layer on the outside that will protect it from rust but the layer can be damaged and contaminated. When it gets contaminated with iron you get rust. If those studs got tumbled in a tumbler that was used to do plain steel parts they could have easily gotten pooched.

Any word on the studs? I am the one that sold the to the op; just had another person with the same problem. I am trying to get to the bottom of this as well. Seems from what I found out so far is that there was a bad batch or lot or whatever. Guessing economic reasons may be playing a part.

i bought an ada head from another member and have had it on for 2 weeks and the studs still look good. on a side note some stainless will be magnetic. i belive 17-4 stainless is magnetic and judging by the way the material looked on my set i am thinkin they are 17-4. i also think that 17-4 would rust over time. are you guys running in salt water? 17-4 im pretty sure is more of a structural grade stainless where as 300 series ar more corosion resistant but have crappy tensil strength and stretch. im just going on past experiences maching parts at work and my memoryis not the greatest anymore. just throwin my 2 cents into the jar.

I have had the ADA head bolts/washer rust and even the studs a little , its was just a surface rust which came up from one non stainless nut carburator mounts and lack of air ( now I leave hood open in garage to dry out after each ride ) combined with moisture inside engine bay. I have removed the non stainless nuts and with plenty air to dry no more problems...I guess surface rust can build up anywhere

I bought an ADA head a few weeks ago and the studs rusted overnight. I can't say I was that happy..

I understand regular steel has its advantages, but there are pleanty of comparable grades of stainless...

anyone got any ideas on protecting them other then just inox or wd40?
like painting them.
also what do people put on the threads, grease, thread sealer or loctite?

I can powder coat the areas between the threads for you. Well I dont do it but I have a good contact just down the road.
