What to sacrifice when impeller is stuck

If you grind/split the impeller, you'll find the threads a bit "pulled" in a small area. You can use a thread file to straighten that out and use the shaft again. You might consider teflon paste on the threads as a corrosion preventer so there wont be future issues.

Well I got it off and new one on but now I'm running into clearance issues...

Does this look right? About a 1/16 gap on all sides. What's a new 9/15 run for outer edge to outer edge diameter?

I was told it came out of a 144 pump but the guy I got it from is in the process of taking care of it now. We'll see how it goes

Op, be advised, a new 144mm impeller measures exactly that. The housing, the impeller duct (yam's name) is one half mm larger. Translated into inch system: about 0.010" (ten thousands) clearance between imp. and housing. Once the impeller wears- and it will- and the clearance approaches 0.020" ( a half mm), you'll notice propulsion loss and acceleration similar to a slipping automobile clutch. Don't try to have impellers welded for zero clearance - that might be the theoretical ideal in fluid dynamics- but stick to the 0.010", there will always be some wobble there due to vibration.

Thanks. Guy said it's going back to a shop that re does this type of thing and brings it back to spec it was at new

I welded the wrench to the prop. Then welded my spline tool into a hitch receiver so I could put the whole deal on the back on the truck and use a long cheater pipe. I was able to reuse everything including wrench n prop.
Good luck!

I got it off and after looking at it, it would never have come off without snapping the shaft or ruining the threads. The first 5 threads were galled completely ruined and locked tight

Just mic'd the outside to outside edge of prop. 142.3 mm... "Used for two months in clean surf"

I know exactly what sand does to a stainless prop. I run mud motors for duck hunting and they run is the sand full time. I recognized it right away when I took it out of the box.
