I wear mx helmets. I usually buy a decent hjc or similar quality helmet for my atv, then retire that helmet to the salt water and buy a new helmet for my atv.

the Giro lightweight from Blowsion(not carbon), although I only wear it when I'm riding surf or going filming.

I have a Snell DOT for Racing, heavier than the freeride Giro by a pound or two.

Giro Remedy. MX helmets get to heavy when wet IMO. My brother wears a full face kayak helmet, even lighter then my giro.

I ended up buying a gecko helmet that is also a marine grade helmet made in the UK. It is super lightweight and does not gain water weight. It is super comfy as the air blatter adjust around your head for a perfect fit no pressure points, and it has a HUGE face opening so you cant even see the helmet when its on. On top of that they allow custom modifications at no extra charge. I had them make one without the ear piece opening in hope to keep water from rushing into my ear on 3/4rolls. I also had them make it without the visor inserts since they look ugly if you dont run a visor. I've tryed a TON of helmets over the years and this is what i settled on. The only downer its pricey, to your door its just under $350 USD at the current exchange rate.

Only the MX for racing, it needs to be DOT approved for IJSBA Races

this is what I got, price is right and very lite. I also to have a Lazer helmet made for water with close cell padding but it's kind of beat up and old.

I just wrap my head with bandages, that way if I get hurt I'm already bandaged up.
