Other What's the coolest ride you've had on a ski?

I was just thinking about some of the cool places I've ridden a ski tonight. What about you?

Mine:
  • buoys and surf in Guam in '94, also got to ride a full PJS 550 and pro mod 750 race ski while there
  • salt marshes in Charleston, SC, also rode all the way around Folly Island once
  • 50+mph creek riding here in Louisville with glass so smooth you get disoriented
  • got to ride in a pool at Jetfest 2000 at Kentucky Lake (Jetfest was the predecessor to all the current freerides, was organized on rec.sport.jetski newsgroup)
  • rode North Shore of Oahu and got a ticket because of it
  • did a freestyle show at The Jam ~2002 with Chris Maros *in the marina* in over 100' of water
  • Charleston Harbor, out to Fort Sumter and back

If you have a cool ride you can do, do it, don't just do the same thing everytime you go out.

Of all the years of sking I have under my belt, three stand out

1. Hands down, the funnest ski trip I’ve ever been on was the Ensenada Mexico trip that Ross Champion and Blowsion put together where we all rode out to Todos Santos Island and rode Double to Triple over head surf. It was sunny, the waves where glassy and Huge and there wasn't even one surfer or tow crew out, we had it all to ourselves.

2. A week after that Mexico trip, we caught Point Loma here in San Diego at what surfline was calling a 20’+ day. The waves were actually bigger than Todos Santos Island, but not as clean. I still get a smile thinking about that day, it was just stupid big!

http://youtu.be/MKYIM4nepV4

3. The third funnest trip is really any of the many times I have ridden the toolie trails at the Colorado river between Hidden Shores and Lake Martinez

damn dave! you get around! dont you work? lol.

coolest ride was off palm beach a few years ago, me and two buddies, waves were about head high, with slightly bigger sets, perfect glassy swells, just peeling down the beach and no one around!
nothing super special, just a great day with fun waves, all i can think of right now..

Midnight Motosurf at liquid Militia Team weekend 2010 Broke in my new LPW motor with a full moon in 1-2 foot surf at the private ranch beach break around 1-2 am. One glowstick on my vest one on my handlepole. Best experience riding EVER... So far.

Not on a standup but took the gp1200's down to tampa to visit my dad's buddy. Put the skis in and rode out during high tide to the mangroves. 65 mph in a foot of water with less than a foot on either side of you was a lot of fun. Almost had a couple crashes though

X3 the waves were 12-14 foot pure ground swell with a light wind, semi glassy at times...Hurricane Bill reached 140 mph sustained winds as it turned before the Bahamas...it went by the east coast aprox 1000 miles from land and still produced epic waves...a great big crew there will never forget that day...

the pic attached was Friday night, the day before the big swells arrived...

todos santos was just sick. double to triple over head waves, all of our friends, other than me sinking my boat out there and having to get towed 7 miles back, it was a life experience i will never forget.

Ok, my other one was Hurricane Andrew in `94. On the west coast of FL all we had was wind after it crossed the state, and it pulled the tide out with it into the Gulf (extremely low tide). We knew at some point the tide would have to come rushing back in so we loaded up our skis after work and went out to our our ride spot and for 3 hours there was nothing. About 8:30 as the sun was setting (we already burned two tanks riding flatwater) we rode out the pass one more time. The waves were lined up head high, glassy with 13 second period, I have never seen surf like that on our coast since. We burned the rest of our fuel after sunset in the dark riding on fumes.

The next morning we road dawn petrol before work, still pretty good, but nothing like the night before.

damn guys, some of those pics are awesome. i dont have anything on most of yall but im still very young in the sport.

i did go out on a limb last friday and rode some sloughs off the chattahoochee river. its a hell of a rush coming around a corner and seeing a 12 foot gator! i also got to drive a mud buddy around. it was really cool to jump logs and slinging mud in a boat while my ski is ratchet strapped in the floor

Here are some highlights that range from Northern Canada to southern Florida;

- Whitewater in Likely, BC, Canada on the Chilcotin River. (38MPH flow, 3-7 ft rapids)
- New Years day ride on the 1 mile stretch of the Chilcotin River that didn't freeze that particular year.
- Frozen "Hutch Lake" in Northern Alberta, Canada
- 2 weeks of vacation in Kelowna BC, Canada. Rode every day and hit 7 different lakes in 10 days.
- Secret spot in Florida for Hurricane Bill, (even had my wife out there that day)
- Tybee Island, GA; on my first RN superjet purchased just 3 weeks after I moved down to the US. Met ScottS for the first time, broke down on an outgoing tide and was swept out into the Ocean for over 20 minutes.
- St Augustine, Jacksonville and Sebastians Inlet Florida. Riding with sharks is cool enough but our first time at the spot we encountered a bunch of stingrays trailed by their little babies in a perfect flight pattern. Having just pet Stingrays the weekend before in the Myrtle Beach Aquarium, seeing them in the wild with their young was pretty damn cool.
- Daytona 2010 for my Honeymoon.

One of my favourite rides from back in my home town was the nicknamed the Swamp River run. 38 miles of lazy bends, splits around islands and some whitewater, ending in an incredible waterfall. Since one of the riders that day was killed shortly after, I always think of that day when I think of him.

I have been entertaining ideas of trying to ride in all 50 states...
