Like said above. go twice as fast as you think you should. The more you practice then you can go slower. But speed is a newbies friend when learning. Gives you more time to find your balance and motions. But do it safely. Large open water is best. Don't learn next to the bank and docks it will just make you more nervous.

Lol the nose is going to dig into the water. You just have to go fast enough and move fast enough to get back on the throttle. You going to come out and ride with us this weekend? I want to hit up red top on Sun.

I work Friday and Sunday but I'm gonna be at the lake on Saturday till I can't afford any more gas! And Sunday I begin my foothold install. I ordered a lot of goodies to install next week! You gonna come out Saturday?

Like stated above a nice plane speed. Get almost all the way over except for your right leg, grabbing right side of the hood hand hold. In one clean motion let off throttle letting the right leg over then quickly grab throttle again but using your thumb to give it gas instead.

To ride the hood backwards it's a similar action. Lots of throttle... Chest on pole... Spin around like you're going to do a fountain, but hit the throttle before the nose goes under. Then make sure you have lots of room cause it's really hard to look over your shoulder while riding. If you have turfed rails you can stand up backwards as well. This is where I usually fall off because the steering is backwards and if you give it too much throttle you face plant in the tray.

have fun!!

I forgot!
I usually 180 the ski under me to get on the hood backwards. This usually kills all speed so it sets you up for a fountain. You can finish your fountain by blipping the throttle so the ski dives deeper and you slide up the hood to put your weight back. Let off the throttle and lean your body toward the tray and bend you knees up out of the water. When the ski feels level hit the gas in a controlled manner with lots of power to plane you out. Use your man muscles to keep from kissing your tray. Using a tether is the hardest part of this trick for me.

keeping it on a plane at all times while doing your move. i have hood holds but i grab the rail with my left hand when i spin over the hood. i also use my right thumb on the throttle with my hand already turned to make the move smoother letting off the gas less amount of time... the stronger more pop/ low end you motor has makes hood tricks harder. I've watched stoyer do some pretty cool moves with 1000cc plus and make it smooth...

Thanks for all the info. I'm trying to find videos of people transitioning onto the hood but they do it so fast and make it look so easy! When I tried to go for it, I felt hung up and couldnt figure out the best way to move over without yanking the steering and tossing myself off. I guess Saturday I'll give it another shot. I'm trying to stay in places with no wake and no land/ppl so I have plenty of running room.

I usually go to my knees and put my left hand in the hoods right hand hold... Plane out and get plenty of speed.. The more the better... When I think I have enough I move my throttle hand to the chin pad and spin around and get back to the throttle as soon as possible. I've been attempting the 180 to good ride like d-roc mentioned... While on my knees and dragging my left leg in the water I pop the throttle and get the ski to spin out from underneath me... Ending up reversed on the hood... I can fountain it this way just haven't been able to plain out again and ride off on the hood... I'm 6'2" 205 so I roll around a lot tho... My beer belly makes me top heavy haha.. Need to get more fluid with te motion. Biggest problem I used to have was over rotating and spinning myself right off the hood haha.

handholds are a must. The easiest way to get on the hood is to practice it on the trailer or on a stand. That will get you comforable with being up their and getting over the bars. Practicing that way save a ton of time and energy

Your weight determines how fast you need to be going when your first learning. My girl can basically get on the hood while the skis idling. I'm 230 so when i first learned i was basically pinned then crawled over
