Super Jet Whats wrong with the stock throttle?

Seriously. Why do people spend money on AM throttles? Do they really help some people? Every one ive ever used fatigued my finger after a while.

They are all also made of METAL, so when if you ever hit your face on it, its sure to split it open.

Wondering if this is another gimmick thing, or if there is some sort of performance behind it? I was thinking it may have a slighty quicker ratio by having a dif angle, and therefore maybe having a better throttle response, but were talking milliseconds there.

I personally pull off the AM ones, sell them, and put stock ones on

Well to start with it, a/m throttles dont look as ghey as factory ones do. A/M throttles are also longer so its an easier pull for your fingers. The factory throttle is clunky and you are just as likely to split your head open on the gigantic piece of plastic as you are an A/M aluminum one. And last, a/m throttles come in kick ass colors haha

Nothing. I use them on all my race boats as well as freestyle. I even put one on my hx when I was racing that as well
Im not concerned if some one looks at my ski and htinks it has a gay throttle

I've removed a few broken stock finger throttles, easier to just buy an aftermarket on that won't crack and break as easily as the plastic ones.

Weird. Ive never seen a broken one myself, but have seen 2 broken am ones? guess everyone rides different?

Commenting on how it looks was kinda why I was thinking alot of people buy them.

I do not think your as likely to bust your face on plastic as metal. The stock throttle mounts a bit dif than the am ones.

Longer doesnt mean less fatigue. It still takes the same amount of energy if its at the same angle. Thats just how physics works.

My buddies I ride with also prefer the stock throttle, but I see a ton of others using AM ones

I find the A/M throttles to be more comfortable,my buddy does not. I tried to give him one but to each his own. As far as never seeing a broken one,saw one 2 weeks ago.

you can pull the throttle open 30% wider with aftermarkey. free HP :nana: jk jk

i broke 2 stockers last year. i think the stock ones feel good, but i after 2 i got pissed and got a cold fusion and love the way it feels.

i like the stock one, but i dont like that you have to drill/tap a hole to in the bars to mount it. also on bars that are knurled (rrp) its really tuff to install. lastly the am levers allow you to use a kawi style cable that is 1/3 the price and much stronger.

I run aftermarket throttles on all my ski's but I do like the feel of the stock throttle. Last year I experimented with stock Kawi and Yamaha throttles on my wife's ski and she went back to the Shark fab throttle that I modified for her small hands. I figured the stockers were designed to suit a wide variety of hands and people so they should be pretty universal. I am going to try it out on my ski this year if I ever get my chit together and ride again.

It is very simple to drill and tap the Yamaha throttle to accept the larger Kawi style cables, I did a couple of them last year.

i hate the feeling of the stocker its to bulky and feel they my finger doesnt have any grip. its also thicker so my finger doesnt wrap around it as much.

well thats my opnion everyones diff.......but a major factor its anodized BILLET yo no ski is complete unless its been pimped with BILLET

Some of the aftermarket ones aren't much better. Some are wide and flat with sharp corners. Others are too far from the bar and you really have to reach. When you do finally find one that fits and feels good, it's so sloppy that it feels like it's about to fall off.

If I am ever in the market for another aftermarket throttle then I am going to try one of the fully adjustable units like the TBM.

I use Bicycle levers. all levers have a different "throw" to them as well. mine makes my throttle response "light Switchy" and i love it. others hate it. its all your personal preference, rider hand size, bar width... if you like it, run it.

I went to an AM throttle to accept a JM BB cable and to change the mounting a little. 0* bars put a tight angle on the stock throttle and broke it. I like the stock throttle, and I prefer plastic over billet on parts that don't have a reason to be billet. Change was for the longevity of my parts.

I'm not sure this is the quintessential selling point, but the 'hook' in AM throttles is a nice touch.

Otherwise i'm pretty much 100% guilty of buying billet goodness.

Cool. Was just wondering.

I tapped my stock throttle to use a yami bolt to hold it to the bars. Has worked for 2 years now.

Wondering where they break at, as Ive been pretty damn rough with mine and it hasnt yet. I got plenty of spares so It wont much matter.

I persoanlly dont like the hook on them, Sometimes when you get flung off hard, my fingers tend to slide along the throttle, and Ive snagged it before on the hook. No injury but ive felt it for a bit.

Good info on the bigger steering cable fitting the AM, thats a good point.

I appreciate the opinions

its all preference .. my son loves the stocker Yamaha over many aftermarkets ... I LOVE my UMI .. hate the blowsion .. only because the umi has a tilt and just seems to fit my small hand much better .. the blowsion is also nice but I really hate it as its just to for out for me .. what I don't like may be someone else's ideal throttle ..

Stock is comfortable.

But if you get into serious Freestyle and start doing 50/50's and Monkey jumps, you will break your throttle using your foot to control the ski........... wait, nevermind, those tricks are lost art tricks!

I had an aftermarket throttle on my X2 and hated it, kept the stocker on my SJ and it's just more comfortable. I also ride with padded gloves now so that may help.

But the stocker with ODI Rogue grips is the bees knees!
