When turfing with footholds...

...Is the goal to use one solid piece of turf? Or are supposed to use sections?

Also, when installing padding, its fine to put contact cement on the padding right???

Thanks!

Who likes seams.... and its not only fine but a necessity. Scuff both sides with sandpaper and at least 2 coats on mating surfaces completely waiting to dry between coats and final fit.

just remember that heat is your friend... work slow and in small sections and use a rubber mallet... good luck

when my father and i did ours, we used four pieces, one for the dash, one for the floor of the tray, and one for each of the sides. if you do he sides and dash first, when you lay the floor make sure the pieces is just right (if not a little big) for the space and the seems on the sides and front almost disappear. IDK what other do though

X2 with sterling- heat is the key

added picture, see if you can find seems??

dash was used only on mine, my father opted to use the stock plastic dash

i just turfed my holds on friday. heat is definitely the key. without glue on the turf heat the turf and mold it into the holds, cutting and trimming till you have the fit you want. dont heat too much or you will melt the turf, but with the right amount of heat the turf will become much more pliable. heat and shape the turf and allow it to cool. when it cools it will kinda hold the shape of the foothold. then put your contact cement on and let the cement set up. when you go to put the turf on it should still have somewhat of the correct shape, and you will only need to heat a little when laying the cemented turf. also, you may want to apply 2 coats of contact cement to both sides, as the turf and under padding soak some of it up.

one sheet can be enough, but i ordered 2 sheets of b stock to be sure. i made patterns out of old cardboard moving boxes so that i only had to cut once and so that i didnt waste much turf. 2 coats of contact cement and applied pressure with a linoleum roller.
