want a hull worth 2k? mod a superjet.

My thoughts exactly...and take that one step further, do all the mods that are the "rage" now and make molds off of that to either sell or for future hulls for urself. The superjet platform is tried and true. I would think there is a market for a lightweight, shortened SJ platform hull that is made of carbon with much needed nose rocker and pole bracket pushed further forward. Each of those mods can be found on this site many times so the know-how is already done. Make the cuts, lay the glass, and then make the molds for ur new hull. All that said,...those Nikwad hulls are nice looking. Good luck with whatever u decide. If u have the balls and the desire go do it. I love seeing guys jump in with both feet. I'm behind u 100%.

In a few days we will see if we are going for it or not. Still waiting to see who is the first in line to buy them. Im amazed at the number of messages I got asking about the hull, and some even looking to help who have already built hulls. Then I read back a few pages and remember to take the good with the bad. Thanks for the positive input.

you will be even more amazed if you do make molds and make a hull for $2k and when it comes time for people to put money in your hand at how many of those people who told you "they would so buy one" don't have the money.

Thats the beauty of it. I'm not making molds or designing anything. I'm buying molds and a design thats proven to flip with a 701. Even if we build 2, we got hulls and experience for the cost of materials and our time.

I'd bet a whole lot of folks would be fine sticking with an SJ hull. It seems like everyone is looking for a quick fix to pull off bigger tricks instead of working on skill and technique.

exactaly...the majority of riders cant ride their superjets close to its potential....why they need a 8k hull is beyond me..

LOL... thats the american way!

But seriously, by this rationale none of us should be spending money on B-Pipes, Big Bore mill's, or anything else. We should master bone stock ski's first right?
I'm sure anyone who makes a performance (not safety/reliablity) products would like you to keep your opinion to yourself LOL.

I'm fine with buying a lighter/ better performing hull and therefore "buying my way" into decreased level of difficulty for the tricks I hope to perform. Especially if I can get one for about 3k :) Which is about how much I have saved up.

10 people say they want one.. 1 person actually buys one. Been there, done that.

Although I love my ski with my aftermarket hull....if I was starting from scratch today, I would buy a totally decked out reinforced used superjet with everything aftermarket for around 5500.

I put double that into my ski, and I do like it a LOT more than a sj, but I wouldn't put that much money into a ski today.

no a sj is stock form is barley rideable once you are a fairly competent rider...

there are very few people that can use even a limited setup to its potential...look at what the old school freestyle guys could do on a ported 701 in a sj hull...you can spend as much $ as you want but it will never buy you skills

pipes and handling mods actually improve your skis performance there is no arguing that...with some of these hulls their performance benefits are questionable at best..ive seen really good riders jump on some of these freestyle hulls and look like an absolute beginner..they are either so backflip oriented that they are terrible for anything else or they are made to be so stable that they kill their handling for anybody thats a halfway decent rider...they are like training wheels for jetskis...they are easy to ride but they arnt high performance

the level of riding on average in the last 5years isnt even close to what it was in the 90s...people are riding "better" skis now but arnt nearly as competent of riders as they were back then...(doing backflips dosnt make you a good rider btw)

down at my local beach circa 1991 there would be 40guys on 550s railing buoys going bar to bar for 20min motos...most guys now cant even do a turn going over 20mph let alone hang on for 20min pinned in the surf..

I wish there was a hull that was short and stable enough that you could do actual snaps in a critical section. I have not seen anyone go 12 oclock on a ski and pull it off. It just does not seem possible (without huge amounts of trim) to do a tight snap like what is possible surfing. I hope that hulls go in the direction of making more surf maneuvers possible rather than flat water backflips. BackhandReo.jpg

stable is going to be the last thing you want if high performance surfriding is what you are after..whats easier to go verticle on surfing...18.25"wide high performance shortboard or a 20" wide funshape??.. which one is more stable???

you can punch the clock at 12 or beyond on a ski...if you havent seen it maybe you are just riding with the wrong people

I know it is possible to go 12 o clock on a ski, but the tail does not follow through. It seems with a shorter hull, one could be able to go 12 o clock and have the tail follow through.

That is the advantage I see in aftermarket hulls in the future.
And I doubt I ride with the wrong people when it comes to surf riding haha

Mike Melby, Brett McCartney and Pattelli racing- man those days were fun. 90' and 91 summers for me livin DP street on a couch. Only thing that sucked was having to go to Carpenteria for race gas. But we got to surf a few waves and score some hooch so it was worth it. Still enjoying hoagies?
