Where did you buy yours?

This is probably going to seem like a silly question, but I wanted to ask around before I go out and dump some money on a few new gas cans.

I've got everything for my ski, it just needs to be assembled. So now, I'm looking into all the other "little" things that make the sport come together.

Where did you buy your gas can at?

Is there any particular type that you like? If so, why? What makes it better than others?

What size did you buy? I'd like to find some 6 gallon cans. Anyone know where they're available?

Are the plastic ones better than the metal ones?

I plan to use the gov't approved gas can containers, I just want to know which ones are the best.

Thanks in advance!

That's like asking what 2-cycle oil is the best. Or which wax.

It's just going to hold gas, not perform or be displayed.

I've found the can with a long flexible hose is easier to fill up an SJ in the water then a can with the rigid plastic pour spout.

Good to know, thank you. :)

This is the kind of stuff I"m looking for though. I don't mind opinions. I'm just curious what works best for you and others. :)

You mean you guys dont have custom air brushed gas cans? ...looks like i got ripped off.

I think home depot or walmart sells six gallon cans. I have a few fives and a six. All the ones i got have a rigid spout and terrible venting so i just put a screw through the top and remove it when pouring to vent it out better. They were like $5-6 each i think. Id get plastic over metal, the hot weather seems to be a bit nicer to the plastic (mine swell up a ton if i leave them sealed in the sun, but they never break)

o yeah, i use a cheap funnel and hose to help fill my ski aswell, all can be found at my local gas station. Then again the gas station near my lake house is literally like a mini walmart. If you cant find something there, good luck.

Moose Racing jugs for me. They interlock, fit in a tray almost perfectly, and pretty much won't flip over no matter what you do.

Well, apparently they don't sell them anymore, so nevermind. I'm glad I have mine...

Jaz still makes race cans but they say water on them. I had a talk with the northeast rep and he said the only way they can make them is to say they are for water. Still come in red, black, & blue.

I've been poking around on the 'net and I found these cans:

http://www.nospill.com/CARBcans.htm

They look pretty good and from looking at a couple lawn and garden sites, these are supposed to be really good. I'm considering getting 3 of these, with the flexible nozzle adaptor.

Anyone out there used one of these cans before and can comment on your success with it please?

I've used and it was the slowest pouring thing I've ever dealt with.

I found a 5-gallon can similar to the VP square jugs at a local dirtbike shop. 35 bucks with a flex hose. Fills the skis much faster than the cheap ones, and I don't spill any.

I hate carb cans. Govt regulation at it's worst. The ones I've used always spill and are super slow. I've never spilled a drop out of a can with a flexible hose. I don't know who's a bigger idiot the legislators who passed the law to require them, or the stupid designer who made a product that does the exact opposite of the intended purpose.

Utility jugs are great. I have scribners at least 10 years old that are fine.

If you can't get a regular hose like the one above go to Home Depot and you can buy the pieces to make one.

Thanks for the info guys.

It really seems there's a big difference between functionality and legality.

Where's the happy medium? Argh!

I'd like to get a gov't approved can, just to avoid the legal issues. I don't mind a can if it pours slow (as long as it's not annoyingly slow...) as long as it doesn't LEAK. Leaky cans annoy the hell out of me.

are you worried about the police checking your gas cans for CARB compliance?

buy the cans you like and use them.

the feds only made manufacturers stop making the old style can - they didn't say we had to stop using them.

I don't think you need to worry about being force to buy carb.

(CARB compliant fuel cans & nozzles are required for retail sale in California, Connecticut, D.C., Delaware, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and some counties in Virginia)

The problem with most carb cans is that they are supposed to automaticaly shut off when you lift the tank off. but they don't quickly or fully shut off, so the can is still upside down and they spill. With a flexible hose you tilt the can down, the flow stops and then you take the hose out.
