Where to get Cylinder Bore

I didn't really know where to post this or if you guys would know but here goes. I bought a square as a project and the motor was full of water. The carnage wasn't that bad, mostly surface rust. So I need to bore the Cylinders (61x). Would any of you know where I can get that done around buffalo NY. I know it's a long shot but figured I would ask. Also, is a gasket and piston kit from Ebay okay to use or are those cheaply made and not worth it? Thanks in advance. Love this site, so much information for a young kid to learn

Chuck is a great option and a you can have him port the cylinders as well, but any local machine shop can do it.

Yes any local shop can do it but be careful how much they charge and go ahead and get the price quote first so you don't end up paying something outrageous. Buy the top end kit yourself so the shop can't make money off you for that.
From what I know and understand about 60-80 each hole. So 120-160 to get it done.
One of my used to be friends a while ago sent two kawi 650 cylinders off and when he went to pick them up the bill was $860.00...

For a price like that id have told them to keep it and bought another cylinder. lol

$60 per hole here at CPT. Thats a 4 stage process; bore, size hone, bi directional plateau hone, and finish hone for proper crosshatch and final clearance.

Chuck is the man, send it here!!! He has done a few cylinders for me and one of them was a 61x 735, hits as hard as a stroker 820 Ive ridden. Believe it or not.

What's all this fancy stuff^^^^.

My local guy just bores then size hones and finish hones for a nice crosshatch. I do the chamfering and that keeps my price way down but what's the reason behind the 4 step process? Educate me.

Did they do port work or something?

Nope, just a hole in the wall shop overcharging.
That price was for two top end kits (4 pistons, rings, wrist pins and bearings) and bore/hone/checking for trueness.
If I remember correctly it was 200 a pop for the top end kits, and 150 per cylinder set. So 700+tax/And other BS markups.

well, a Pro-X piston is shy of $100 so...

$360 (piston/ring x4)
$60 (wrist pin and bearing x4)
$240 (bore x4)
$660.

Not really a lot of price gouging going on there. Even WSM or SBT top end kits are over $200 a set.

I generally expect to pay about $400 to do a top end on a motor and since I use a SBT crank, I usually get that swapped out when I need a top end, so add $200 for the crank and some more for seals.

I guess I am lucky, My local shop charges 40$ a hole. Only thing is it can take a few weeks depending on his back log. Send them to Chuck and have them ported too.

Im only doing one more procedure then your local guy. going bi directional with the plateau hone helps reduce the need for chamfering and cleans the microscopic slag from the boring bar out of the port sides and bottom. Stock width ports dont even hardly need chamfering.

Thanks for the recommendations!! Love this form, I've learned so much and build my first engine and it rips. Big thanks to Chuck for boring the cylinders. He does great work and would recommend 10/10.
