White wash behind tray...

As I was riding my 08 superjet today, it felt as though it was unstable at times. I looked behind me, there was white water churning up like crazy behind me. Is this normal? Would this have anything to do with instability, and extended ride plate help if so? Thanks

Time for a new pump seal.
Just bought ski in april and had to have carbs cleaned and mounts installed.Took marina until june to finish. Only run 3 tanks thru so far. Is this something i could do, or wait till fall? Its on a hoist at dock and i dont have trailer so will take time...resources truck etc. Thanks for your time

You can do it as long as you can access the bottom back of the ski, you just pull your pump out and replace the big rubber seal. Should only take you a hour or two.

If you have a faulty pump seal the symptom is going to be cavitation, which will feel like the prop is slipping(engine revs up but ski won't go anywhere)
When you see whitewash, is that what happens?

08+ hulls are also notorious for being unstable at certain speeds, especially if you're not used to them.

So before you go pulling your pump out for the first time, in the water...
Does this feel like a performance issue that's causing handling issues, or a handling issue?

It does cavitate a little when starting out, but I get weight forward and it levels out. I don't have any sounds like pump is sucking air except over decent sized boat waves. Flat water seems fine except for occasionally being unsteady. I figured it was just me getting used to riding again. Its been 25 years since I had a 440, and I weigh about 30 more lbs. So, just noticing all the churning of water behind me, and occasional unsteadiness, along with water starvation over large waves, and thought there might be an issue.

No feel of prop slipping, or reving like in neutral

So, the short of it lol. No performance issue with whitewater behind me while moving. Tray does seem shorter then I remember on 440

Find someone local who has experience on superjets to ride it and tell them your concerns.

You might have a problem but its hard to tell. There's quite a difference between a pre 08 superjet to an 08+, let alone a 440 to a 08+ superjet.

Keep in mind the 08+ hull was designed as a balls to the walls racing hull for competition. It's at home carving turns at high speed and being givinen generous throttle constantly.

At any rate I think you should find a local to check out your ski and go from there
