Who can make stuff for others?

List is in Post #3

There are a lot of people here who can make stuff at home or after work. Some people have mills and lathes at home. Others have access to large plasma cutters after work. Some people are engineering students who need projects to practice on. This is an untapped resource that I would like to facilitate.

@Scraggly designed a part, 3d printed it and shipped to to me very reasonably. I would like to put together a list of people who can do such jobs for those of us who have big ambitions but small budgets to connect those people with people who want a little side work, to help the community or projects to practice on.

Understand that the people who can do such work are not doing it to be abused. They can price their work how they please and turn down any work they do not want. Do NOT harass them and ruin it for the rest of us!!!

If you are wanting your information on this list, understand that you are going to be contacted for single items and small jobs. People using this list are probably not able to afford $125/hr shop rates. Also this is not intended as advertising for businesses. Businesses should only try to include their information if they are intending to provide special assistance to forum members (Example: Adding an item to an anodizing batch rather than charging the shop rate)

It is the responsibility of both parties to develop a relationship and agree to working together. I am only putting together a list and will not get involved with any conflicts. Use the buyer / seller feedback.

Shhhh....just kidding. I will have to look up all my working envelopes and edit later. But the short is. Cad 3d/2d file types pretty much all.
Mill and lathe. 3d print and cnc engraving. Can write g code, provide surfacing as well as solids for cam software. Can also write tool paths for said machines if I know your tools setup and machine.

I really like this idea. I just finished up high school where I was able to 3D print a couple jetski parts here and would've been more than happy to design and/or see if I could print somethings at school jetski related in place of normal projects. I'm going to college to study Mechanical Engineering and hopefully this thread will still be alive when I can actually make some cool jetski stuff instead for some people

Not exactly related but I work at a higher end paint and body shop if anyone needed epoxy work (hull trueing and race oriented stuff primarily) or bottom/top hull repaint in the south east US. I only recommend interlux epoxy on bottom hull and base clear on top, no appliance epoxy cheap stuff. Also have airbrush artist on site who is very talented and experienced.

i dont understand 3d printing and what kinds of things can be made. when i think of printing i think of words on paper. am i behind the times lol

In theory, you can 3D print anything. They 3D print houses, apartment buildings, human organs. poop is the wave of the future. Consumer level 3D printers are good for toys and prototypes as the end product isn't usually overly strong. But there is still a lot you can do with them.

Anything in the volume of the printer. They make solvable filament. With a single extruder you have to have each layer supported by the previous. But with solvable filament you can make anything since you are not limited by the support structure.

You might be thinking you are limited in what you can make because it prints plastic. Look up lost wax and investment casting. You can 3D print in PLA and then melt the PLA out of the investment, then pour an aluminum part in your garage. It’s pretty crazy the things that they are capable with some imagination.

I just got a davinci pro 1.0 for $350. It is a single exteuder and prints 7.8” cubed. I’m already making some small parts with it. Scraggly made a knee guard for my handle pole a few years back with his.

I think the milking, lathing, etc are a bigger goal of this thread since 3D printing has become so affordable.

You can also print patterns with counter sunk holes and cut them into aluminum using a router table and a pattern bit.
