Who has had epoxy come loose

I have read over the last couple of weeks people talking about epoxy coming loose in engines , but no one actually has had it happen from what i can gather.
I have been fitting it for the last 10 years and never had any come out
The only time i have seen some one else's come out is when their metal prep was not good enough below
I always sand blast the area i am putting the epoxy into then heat the material slightly so it runs and away i go , never been an issue.
I have noticed other people talk about things before and they become fact because every one says so on here , im wondering if this is the same scenario

I hope I didn't make anyone think less of epoxy in my threads...it was not my goal at all.

I just had some fail years ago and simply wanted to know if it is as permanent as permanent can possibly be. Meaning if it is done right on a properly prepped surface buy a pro...is it as strong as the original cases? Will it EVER deteriorate?

So wax you are saying you have run a set epoxied cases for 10 years and those cases held up? If so...were they so ported that they needed epoxy in the upper flywheel area? And that held up also?

Madmatt it wasn't aimed at you or anyone at all i just see it coming up and people talking about it like its a bad thing
personally i love the stuff you can make any shape and flow direction you liek in side a set of cases, its awesome freedom to make a set of case really flow.

Yes they were filled there. Thats one of the first places you fill when you port a set of yami cases.
Its all about the preperation. I sand blast , then use a hot air gun to heat the metal this makes the epoxy flow and removes any air bubbles and I have NEVER had any come out

What is the longest period of time you have either personally run or at least followed epoxied cases...like a friends or customers? 3 years? 5 years? more?

what about during extreme temperature change or were water temp is below 50 deg? or maybe after a severe backfire?

these are just scenarios and not facts!

I have a set of case that I have had personally since 2003 I put epoxy in them then and they are still going
Extreme heat change Im not sure how you are going to get that in jetski cases , had a customer who ski ran on the trailer till it seized and the cases are fine

You cant ride in -50c water , its frozen

Steve said "water below 50 deg", and I assume he means degrees Fahrenheit. Where are you getting -50 deg C?
I ride in 34-40 degree water (about 1-5 deg C) quite often, but I don't see what that has to do with case temperature.

Mat is paranoid and is planning to dump some serious money on a motor, he is just trying to look at all his options, nothing wrong with that.

But just because somebody says something does not make it the gospel.

Even an ice breaker wouldn't see -50C :silly:

Shait, I just realised that my couch cases have 7 year old epoxy in them and still look great.

The lowest I've seen was -63C air, not water. It's when you spit and see ice cubes rolling. That was in 1977, Zabaikalye (Siberia, Russia-China border.)
The only things that were working were the diesel engines in the tanks, but the tanks could barely move because the rest of drive line was frozen.

Just epoxied up my cases for my ada 989 build. Wondering about what has been refered to as " disaster plates" which are bolted to the bottom of the cases to help support the epoxy. Are supports necessary on the 2 sides? I'm making a plate for the center as the epoxy is thin. I wish someone sold these plates as it'll take me more time than I have to machine some for the sides. Can't find to much about 8mm stroker case mods.

epoxy resin will sometimes shrink over time. heating and cooling over and over will definitely speed up the process.
