Super Jet Who has purchased a 2012 superjet from a dealer?

some searching hasnt turned up answers for my questions..

what are the facts with purchasing a 2012 superjet from a dealer

1.) do they come with vins and a title
2.) do you need proof of closed course racing
3.) can they legally be registered (not as a 84 kawi etc etc)

Im starting to search dealers to purchase one and would love to know before hand.

I cant seem to find a definate answer. Seems like im reading/hearing more gossip and rumors compared to facts.

If there is a thread with good info please let me know. Im gonna keep on searching for a bit

Thanks Russ

the question really is.... who would buy a brand new one?

the amount of cash your going to spend on a brand new one vs. an 08 that is the same exact thing..... that extra cash is mods down the drain.

Yeah I know, I probably won't be buying new because of that. The only reason I would buy new is because I would know the history of the ski.

While I agree its a bummer paying a premium for a newer ski..... it sure is nice knowing every part is new and every part is wear and tear just from you

I'll take a stab at this, I've read up a little on the matter, however, I have not purchased a new 2012 so take it for what it's worth

1.) do they come with vins and a title
Yes a 2012 SJ will have a vin like any other SJ. How would you know it was a 2012 if it didn't? and common sense says it will have a title also. A title is necessary to convey ownership. I have had several unregister able MX bikes which all have titles.

2.) do you need proof of closed course racing
I doubt it. Yamahas description says "Competition use only" and competition use can be either closed course racing or freestyle, neither which require a license. Not sure about freestyle but to race closed course all one needs is to join the IJSBA, and there's no "qualifying" to do that, just pay there fee.

3.) can they legally be registered (not as a 84 kawi etc etc
No, According to the new EPA laws, as of Jan 1st 2012, No 2 stroke powered craft can be legally registered in any of the fifty states. "Competition use only" means that it will only be allowed to compete in an event that has been permitted by some promoter. If operated outside the permitted competition boundaries, then it will be subject to citation just like any other non registered boat.

I dont understand why they couldent be registered (question #3)

I have to get a new ski (my sn) registered here soon... I will ask but I doubt they will know anything....

Why buy used when you can buy new!!!!! It's a no brainer to me I sold a 04 stock sxr that was in great shape for a new one last year. For two reasions

1. I had over 700 hrs on the ski and would have had to rebuilt the motor soon. No big deal but that means money.
2. I knew it would be the last time i would be able to buy a new standup because I was looking for a house and there are stoping production. I will have this ski till I can ride anymore so the extra money is worth it.

But If your going to mod the motor then its not worth it. If your going to keep the ski stock but new!!!!!!!

I have talked to a few dealers in the PA/NJ/NY area and they claim to have no special insructions on selling the new superjet models. Most were confused on why I was even asking. Title, yes...Registration, yes...no need for racing proof and being sold the same as any other new ski on the market. This information does not match most of what I have read on here.

Two dealers claim to have a superjet on order and arriving within 2 to 3 weeks.

My reason for wanting a brand new ski is just personal preference. If my budget can afford it I will always try to purchase new, even when it comes to parts. Over the years I have spent to much money on replacing wear and tear items on used skis, cars, snowmobiles etc etc.

I agree here. Every MX bike I have ever bought has that same sticker "Competition use only" on the brand new rear fender, You can still title those.

Yamaha does say that you are supposed to have a competition card. Could you join up on the showroom floor? Absolutely.

Yes, they will have titles.

Yes, you will be able to register them.

They are in short supply, as my rep has already tried to get me to give up at least one of my three that are on the way.
