Who's running Oem coils on total loss????

So, its known that the msd coils have an arc problem. I have heard that many racers are using them as paper weights and running oem kawi coils.

Does it matter which wire gets the white wire from the msd on the oem coils??

then the other 2 wires: the brown and yellow will go to the other wire on the coil by default.

I am using the ultra 150 coils. 1 wire = black, 1 wire = black w/ white stripe.

I ran MSD Coils for two years without a problem.
I have friends that have ran them for years without ever a problem.
Never heard of this arc problem.

EDIT: Talking about the newer single tower coils only.

That said, once I put my motor back together I will be using a stock Yamaha coil with Total Loss, but for other reasons.

The 3 systems I have to maintain, 2 of them are using oem Yamaha coils due to MSD dual tower coil failures.

so then you guys are running the oem yami single coil with the msd? can this work with the muti digital tl?

the oem coils work just fine with the old analog (sgl channel).you just use the oem elec. box incl solenoid and strap the control module to the outside of that box. it's been working for 15 years like that. the multichannel requires separate coils for each cylinder 'cause they fire at diff. times.

i thought that may be the case.so there is now way to do it with the stock ebox and oem coil with the dual dig msd?

The dual channel fires each cylinder separately, which results in more energy per plug.
If you wire up an OEM coil, it will fire both cylinders at the same time, giving you a much weaker spark.
