Same here. I ran a 13/16 Concord with the special Impros finish, and cutback 3mm.

Then I tried out a Swirl 13/18 - instantly noticable difference.
Thats what I want to here:biggthumpup: I read in some other post about the swirl being heavier than the solas. My builder said that what I would gain on bottom would totally make up for it and I would never notice. I was torn on which one I was going to buy. I dont even know what I payed for it but it was a deal. They tend to give you deals when you call up and order a Bpipe an ADA head and a prop all at once:biggthumpup:

Well, then I guess I'll get a Skat. Dave at Impros seems to prefer the Solas for it's removal tool, but he's not a freerider (I don't think).

Like hell he isn't
:cool2:

The FR is the same in design as the Concord. Trust me. However Skats removal tool design is notorious for bending out of shape and sometimes cracks the front of the impeller.

The Skat FR is direct copy of the Concord. Trust me. However Skats removal tool design is notorious for bending out of shape and sometimes cracks the front of the impeller.

Well, that's why I qualified my post. My bad.:slap: :knockedout: :dunce:

Hey Garret.....looking at both the Swirl and the Concord, it seems that the edges on the Swirl are more rounded than on the Concord. What's up with that? (Since it's a direct copy)

Sorry, poor choice of words. I don't mean to say that Skat directly copied a Solas. However they are VERY, VERY much alike in design (hub, blade length and blade size). The Concord came out on the market first. A Skat FR and a Concord had no gains over eachother at the same pitch and setback. Other than the removal tool and a couple bucks difference in price, you can't go wrong with either one.

Nope.

The name "Freeride" in the new Skat-Trak props is just a recent marketing term. In actuality, the Skat freeride is a swirl prop and has been out for about 12 years. Skat is the first to supply the aftermarket with this swirl (aka freeride) design (I think Polaris was the first OEM to use it). When the swirl first came out it was targeted to the racers because how well it performed in the white water (pump wash, ect..). Now that racing has taken a back-set to Freeriding, they probably decided it was good marketing (and I agree).

IMO: The Skat-Trak is a better prop for Yamaha while the Solas is better for SeaDoo (due to the spline vs. threaded design).

As always, YMMV :woot:

ps. I still own one of the first Skat (freeride) "swirl" props that I bought 12 years ago.

Yes, Skats swirl design came out after the Mariner reactor in the early 90's.

Sorry for any confusion, I belive we talking about the Skat Freeride impeller for the Yamaha 144 mm pump. Albeit, various swirl designs have been around for a lot longer than the Concord, the Skat "free ride" swirl for the Yami's came out a few months after the Concord. The FR is a not a marketing term, but is a differnt design than their previous swirls. The FR is an awesome prop. A much better design than the previous ones produced for the yami 144.

hope this helps,

G

O.K so I finally got my boat in the water a couple of times this week and I really like this impeller:bigeyes: . I ended up with a 12/17 not sure why I thought I was getting a 13/17. This thing pulls hard, its not a speed demon but plenty fast enough to catch the cruisers again which is exactly what I was looking for. Its hooking up really good but I have been riding pretty clean water we will see how it does in the chop and surf before I decide if I'm going to cut it back.
