Just was looking at a BOB surf layup hull and the guy said it weighed out at 140 lbs! Really?

Seems like an awful lot.............

No disrespect,just wondering why

From my understanding, you can get a glass layup as light as 75lbs. Those surf BOBs were requested to be bullet proof. So all the extra reinforcement brought the hull up to 140lbs.

A lot of poeple were mislead by the weights listed on the webpage. Those weights were for hull only...no hood, turf, ect. and based off of gen 1's. An average flatwater glass build is around a 100lbs by the time it gets to you ready to bolt stuff in. We asked them to build us a 85lb flatwater glass hull and they couldnt without comprimising strength. Surf layups come in 120-140. The one for sale was requested to be bomb proof in the surf and take whatever kind of landing thrown at it without breaking.

Its equivalent to a surf layup rickter. The hull its self doesn't weigh 140, when you actually compare the bare hull weights its in the 110 to 120 range.

My Light-Weight.de was 106 built for the surf with pump shoe, hood, breather tubes, pole bracket, hood hooks, turf, padding, and foot holds. fiberglass with kevlar re-enforcements and is the strongest/ highest quality ski on the market.

my Light-Weight went through the bottom deck of a superjet in france when bruno and i collided and i had no damage.....

i have been hammering my ski for almost a year now and it doesn't even have a stress crack.

what do i win?

If you want quality. You gotta pay!

What was that saying? If you want something cheap, it won't be light. If you want something strong it won't be light. If you want something strong and light it won't be cheap!

No, it's quite silly to compare a Weber built Lightweight.de ski against a BOB (absolutely no offense to the ski clinic, it's just that those two ar at completely opposite ends of the spectrum, not just in price)

I compare nothing to nothing. Im just talking about strongivity(if its the right translation), weight and price of a BOB

When you tell that those two are at completely opposite ends of the spectrun, what do you mean ??

so i take it you have a lot of experience riding the lightweight to make this sort of a statement ? this is a retarded thread! first off no waves in tenn.to worry about surf lay-ups .now we are talking comparison on skis . i think if your comparing there has to be something to it .

I wasn't talking about ride quality as I have no time on either hull. I guess I should have been more specific - I am talking about price, quality, fit and finish, weight, and expected durability.
And yes, I do have years of experience of checking out Norbert's work up close and personal. I also have a couple years of seeing how Bob's do in the same regards and how they hold up to the same treatment that the Lightweights get put through.
What's your experience with both hulls in surf environments?

PS: I can guess at ride quality by seeing how other people do riding each hull, but lets not get into 2nd hand accounts. (Besides, a lot oft that is personal preference and no easily quantifiable)
This isn't a shot at the Ski Clinic. Their hull costs less than half of what Norbert charges. I think it's amazing what the Ski Clinic puts out for that price.
My only point was that it (of course) isn't at the same level as a hull costing more than twice as much, built by a guy with decades of composites experience in sports far less forgiving than our hobby.
