Why did you sell your BOB?

It seems like there are a lot of BOBs on the market, and some good deals to be had.
If you have sold a BOB at any time regardless of which generation, tell us which one you had and why you sold it, I.e.
- upgrade to newer gen BOB or Hurricane?
- upgrade to different am hull?
- limitations of short hulls generally, return to less stunty riding style?
- got your fill and moving on to other sport?
- other?

agreed with mydixiewrecked, mines about to go up for sale rtr but i just want to try something different. i like mine and feel it didnt hold me back at all. i feel most people who sell their skis, whether its a bob or a rickter either want a newer model or just want to try something new.

I think a lot of people also can't do the tricks they want to and blame it on the hull and sell it to try a different one. I'll be the first to admit I'm the lesser part of the hull to rider equation. Just speaking about hulls in general, I've never owned a BOB personally.
I have really been wondering about this factor, and the related issue of whether or not it is really as FUN to have a stunty hull as is to WATCH people on stunty hulls.
Not saying it isn't, I am just wondering. It is just so hard to try before you buy around here, I was really hoping to get some frank opinions from people who have actually owned the BOBs as used they really do seem to be an affordable entry point for someone like me.

I can give you my opinion about them. I had a Matrix at the time I rode my first BOB G3 two years ago, got on the BOB and hated it, I had a hard time even getting up on the thing because it felt so nose high. At the time I was used to my Matrix, a Superjet feels unstable also after a Matrix. Fast forward to this year I rode the same BOB and another G3 with a Dasa1000 after having my Footrocket for the season and I found them both very easy to ride. Just takes some getting used to, they're obviously fairly capable hulls, there are lots of videos out there proving it.

i think it looks like its more fun than it actually is. i think its more fun to chase boat wakes than it is to spin circles doing flips n rolls. totally flat water just doesnt raise my adrenalin like a boat wake. maybe i'm just to heavy at 220 and under powered to get big flatwater air. lil D said last time he weighed 120. no 220 pounder is going as big as a 120 skeleton. i think the powerplant is just as important as the hull. it all has to match for what you want to accomplish. you dont need a micro hull for boat wakes or surf or 1000+ CCs. my BOB was the first visual carbon gen 2 that was made. it was a thin light layup and kind of underpowered at 800cc. it wasnt a good boat chaser and a few more bad landings and it would have been in davy jones locker, so i switched to an awesome boat chasing freak. if you want to spin circles, have big power, BOB is a good choice as are other short hulls.

Lucas has a total different riding "attitude" than anyone I think too. He hits a setup wake way faster than anyone I know of, but Lucas' weight was around 230 if I remember correctly. And yeah, Lucas goes big. I think it goes back to what hink said, it's probably the rider and not the hull, I chased boats on my bob, is it as easy as a Superfreak... No. But it's doable.

weight doesnt make flips harder, it will help you keep your pump hooked up longer tho! Thats why jr flips from 180 and tail stands, but Sr on a similar ski can crank massive vert off a set up wake. BUT As hink said, he had trouble riding a bob his first try, but once he had some more skills and freestyle experience it was a lot easier. The hulls are very capable and crave massive tricks.
Sold my gen 2 cause i destroyed it, sold my gen 3 in rtr form to buy a hurricane 900 rtr full competition package.

I have had 3 of them a gen 1 and two gen 2's. I sold the gen 1 to get the first visual carbon hull that buzzard ended up with. It did not hold together at all. The clinic fixed it twice then Derrick sr. Said they were coming out with a surf hull in a few months so he kept the carbon hull to sell as part of the deal for the new surf hull. I waited almost 6 months for him to call me and say that it is not economical for him to build now so we are going to just make you a gen 2. I was not happy but to far in at this point. I and my brother asked for several changes to be done to have more of a surf boat but all I got was a beefed up gen 2. I will say Derrick was helpful but that's not what I really wanted. After a few months I put the whole boat up for sale and moved on.

I will be selling mine soonish, just to get a hurricane. The bob's are what they are. I think I have the most time on a G3 hull and it shows. Mine is beat to hell. Has cracks and stress lines all over. From heavy use of course. Tons of licoriceed up flips and want to be barrel rolls that land short and way licoriceed up. I'm happy with it and would gladly keep using it if it came to it. My only absolute negative thing with the bob, is it cannot go fast. It will buck you off if you do not ride on the bulge just perfect. I enjoyed chasing boats with the miller crew. But it was difficult keeping up with the faster boats. I know it wasn't made to chase boats, but hey, I can wish can't I? Look for a BoB g3 carbon hull for sale in DC in a few months for 2.5-$3kish.

My home away from home.
Small world lol! That hull that was first owned by Dustin272, then the Buzzard, my son picked up almost 2 years ago. It did come apart on him, but the clinic fixed it up very well and he (my son) beat it pretty hard. Many failed rolls and flips. Jr gave his new glass Hurricane some extra love on the failed roll side to help out.

I had a -5 carbon superfreak and a buddy had a bg3 carbon. I took it for a spin and instantly fell in love. It just worked for me... Fit my riding style more than the freak did. They are both amazing hulls in their own right I think. And as the Buzzard can attest, the freak can really take a beating.

The freak is a boat wake chasing beast as the Buzzard said. And others love it for flat too. I loved it for boat wake chasing, due to its ridiculous stability. But I weigh 165, so I skip around a bit and unhook the pump on turns.

The bg3 is narrower in the back and keeps the pump hooked better for me, my weight and riding style. That being said, when I first rode one, it felt very tippy. But I figured that out real fast. (figure 8's will dial you in pretty quick) I literally rode my buddies bg3 for maybe 10 minutes and went bigger on all the tricks I tried. When I got back to the shore, my wife literally said, "WTF!?" Then she laughed at me and asked why I rode the bg3 better than my freak. Well... It just fits my riding style. It's not the greatest boat chaser though lolol!! It gets it done, but I got kicked around a bit doing it, while my sons bg2 carbon was a badass boat chasing beast. Go figure! His was planted at speed and mine was porpoising.

Anyways... We've both been happy with the bobs and switched up to glass Hurricanes.

I have had a Gen 2 and sold to upgrade to my Carbon Hurricane. Just sold my hurricane yesterday and have a brand new Hurricane Pro Carbon on order.
Long story short the old Bob's are no comparison to the new Hurricane hulls. Our bob's rode ok, held up well and I'm a big guy at around 240 lbs. Then gen 2-3 hulls are more of a slow trick hull, not very good for speed or wake chasing in my opinion. If you have a chance to ride a Hurricane do so! It will change your mind on The Ski Clinic forever!!!!;)

Had a gen 2 and sold it because it was not a fun ski to chase wakeboard boats with. With that said I would still jump on one anytime for a quick ride.

Replying to the being more fun than it actually looks. At the point I am ya right now that is very true. Carbon bob gen 3 slightly underpowered for 190lb rider with an almost 800cc motor. I've only had it out 3 times, I know it's. Learning curve, but it sucks to learn and land on your head 20 time. Feels like you were in a car accident the next day haha. Doesn't stop me any but I think the power plant is what is going to limit your fun meter as far as doing flatwater tricks. Small motors equal small height on tricks.
