Why doesn't anyone really read two stroke theory?

I keep seeing posts of "how does a pipe work?" "how do port timings work" "how does *** work". There are some really good readings out there. Randy at WATCON has some of the best books on the stuff but very few buy them and read. Yes, there is stuff on the web but a good book you can keep looking at, not hurt your eyes and ponder on again and again. I enjoy it when I get to share engine specs with someone who has different specs and got similar results or better. Sorry for the rant but damn, get a book! Then ask whats the result? Not how does it work? Will someone tell me so I don't have to read. I could, but you don't know enough to understand the answer. Ok, I feel better now!

I have a few of the books and enjoyed reading them.
The Jennings book gives great fundamentals, but is dated in application. Still, its principles hold.
The books that Randy offers are great reading with practical applications to PWC 2-strokes.

There is another, larger 2-stroke book I have somewhere that is nice reading. I don't recall the title.

Simple answer is the books cost money and most people on here would rather spend the cash on performance parts for their jet-ski rather than learning how all that stuff actually works.

How much have you spent on parts that weren't that good, but if you knew then what you know now ,could you have saved yourself some money?

Standup drivers tend to be performer types that put all of their effort into riding. The sport has a lot of motorheads making everything bigger, but very few engineering geeks gathering and sharing information.

I wasn't aware that the fuel mixture goes out into pipe then gets pushed back in.
That is what gives your motor it's "power band" the supercharged effect of forcing more air into the cylinder.

If you search enough you can find TONS of information to read on the internet NOT in the same form as the books but it covers basically everything you would need to know.

And some people like to read and learn what they can. While others would rather watch TV and keep their brains in that semi soft vegetable state. LOL...

I drive my wife crazy with the crap I read on the internet. Then the next day or so tell her about everything that I read. I am reading up on quantum physics now.... no wonder she doesn't listen to me...

I have all the books. Bell, Jennings, the Watcon/Jetski Bible stuff, etc and have read them all. I have to confess that I'm really a big picture kind of guy and have decent mechanical instincts, but I'm pretty rough with some of the math required to start from scratch. If I had a NEED to learn it and put it into practice I probably could, but it would be tough. For me the best bet is to have a good relationship with a trusted builder who handles most of the machine work and actual motor building/parts recommendations. I'm more of an assembler/tuner than builder. I don't port motors and my motor guy doesn't make fake legs.:burnout:

There are some very good reasons no one will come on this website and share information, first off it costs major money in R&D to come up with the info to start with, second, there are way too many copycats in this business that love to get ahead by using other peoples hard earned work, third there are way to many instant experts in this business that already know it all and can't be told anything anyway.

My only bad moves so far were buying a new 99SXi Pro in 1999 and the wet wolf stubby pump cone for my SJ.

I have never read a book about 2 strokes but God knows how much time I have spent in forums:Eyecrazy:
