It look's like I am building a Roundnose. yeah I know hard for me to believe to. I am going to reinforce the sides of the hull and I know that everything I have read they grindout the rib's and then build up the sides with biax I was thinking about it and I am convinced I want to leave the rib's in and just lay over them for more corrugation strength what do you guy's think ?

yeah i always wondered this myself.

the ribs are reinforcing ribs and when ppl reinforce the walls they grind out the reinforcements? seems counterproductive to me.

would the correct way to do this is reinforce between the ribs? but i'v never seen this done?

If you reinforce it properly, those little ribs won't even matter. Makes it WAY easier and cleaner to lay the glass. Biax doesn't like to lay down over stuff like that and chances are you'll get air pockets without removing the ribs. Just my .02!

Alot of good thought's I appreciate the comment's. I guess one thing that I have not had any experience with is biax so maybe I need to consider that, as far as matting and epoxy I am not concerned about bubbles or contouring around the rib's. What about clearance issues with pipes is that something I should be aware of ?

some say do it.... some say dont.

i found it much easier to lay the glass on a flat surface. sometimes the biax wants to make bubbles on a flat surface anyway depending on how long it sat folded up. The creases will try to stay creased even after being wetted out.

thin e or s glass is easy to wrap over ridges and ribs on the other hand.

I layed strips of mat between the ribs and then once I had that done I layed glass over the whole side. I didnt get any air pokets. it was my beater ski and I did all the work with the motor still in

you often have to grind the ribs to get the pipe to fit on a stock ski. at least grind the ribs where the pipe is before you reinforce.

there are air bubbles in that job.

...also, it doesnt look anywhere near as good as the top deck where there are no ribs.

by grinding the ribs, yes, youre getting rid of the stock reinforcement.

but, by properly reinforcing it with the correct materials and procedure, youll make it far stronger than stock. whatever strength the ribs give it after reinforcement is nowhere near as great as the PITA and fugly job thats left.
