Custom/Hybrid Why not use a Arctic Cat M1000 Engine?

Hey All,

I have been contemplating the use of an Arctic Cat M1000 engine... Has anyone else looked at this?

It's a 999cc Twin with mechanically driven Power-Valves AND it has EFI... Seriously? A used one is 1500 bucks. Can you say, 'Hello Torque-city'?

Stock it has a claimed 160 HP, but with pipes it has claimed 180-190 HP.

Just looking for opinions on this one... Anyone willing to throw their two-cents in?

1st thing is converting it to electric start, than cooling, then couplers, then water cooled exhuast,.......hope you have a ton of time and good fab skills

Okay, quick question.

Why is water-cooled exhaust a requirement? Couldn't one just have a water inlet toward the rear of the expansion chamber like the Factory B pipes? A.K.A. no water-jacketed headpipe?

I have heard of melting pistons, but is a super hot head pipe the source? Or is it to keep intake temperatures down?

if the crankshaft is similar to a polaris then it's a smooth taper with a key way. so that means a coupler will be kind of hard to put on. you could make an adapter for the exhaust to bolt up to a pfp. it's the only one to clear the powervalves. water inlet is easy. that's the least of your concerns. mounting it in a hull and getting a coupler to work are your main issues. this motor is about 25-30lbs heavier then a 62t.

I have been wanting to do this for years, just haven't gotten to it
Electric start kits are available, also big-bore kits. Check out www.bikemanperformance.com, www.startinglineproducts.com
Exhaust needs to be jacketed to keep under-hood temps down, or fab an adapter and try a PFP pipe.
A coupler shouldn't be too difficult to mod
Need to fab an engine mounting plate

With a sled the electric start is off the clutch not the flywheel.
Sled motors always have more HP than jetski motors. Theirs also way more money in sled r&d and in the sport in general. Putting a sled motor in a jetski is possible but it's going to be a hell of a job.

that's what the original eme and pfp motors were. i haven't seen arctic cat cases up close but on the polaris you just knock off the ignition cover on the front and add a watercraft one. the bolt holes are in the case for the starter already.

correct, octane motors take to snomobuggy upgrades quite well. I wouldnt expect a cat motor to be any diffferent. tigershark anyone?
