Other Why Stand-Up PWC's are no longer in production (School Project)

To my knowlage manufactures have to keep producing parts for 8-10 years after the last one was made. So come 2022 yamaha can stop all production of parts for the 2012 SJ.

This is assuming I Remeber correctly. Which I'm pretty sure I do.

^^^one of the first threads i read on here was your very long thread about the 300sx and an alternative engine.

This is sort of a long the same lines as your presentation, i guess. I gave a lecture last week about biofuels in India, as an alternative fuel. obviously pwc's aren't turning to the very soon but biodiesel is being used more and more for engines.

Im in college as well...

I'm still working on the idea. Fine tuning the hull and building a 550 that will have similar power to weight as the rotary. Hopefully get some good testing on it this summer. Meanwhile, I'm trying to find a Rotron rotary off a Parajet or an Axiro cart engine to drop in. If that works, I will attempt to couple up two of them into a SJ to prove its worth before spending some real $ to go into production.

i would love to build a small 4 rotor for a ski. i still dont think it would have the torque that is needed.
plenty of power once the rpms are up but down low they really dont have grunt

I think we ought to get rid of the EPA and some similar agencies at the Federal level. Just the same though the aftermarket scene we have today with the manufacturers and increasing products- is far better then the factory alternatives that used to exist. Who rides a SJ in stock form for much longer than it takes to learn to turn?

I use to work in a dealership and I was told from are Kawasaki rep that Kawasaki actually lost out on making like 7 sit down skis to every stand up they produced. This was I think from the EPA. That was there way of forcing the market over and making the manufactures want to stop producing. The Manufacture just losses to much money from the limit of sit downs they are aloud to produce and that is why they stopped the market of the SXR. Goodluck with your paper...:)

I have very similar statements in my outline, and thanks

The rotary I have worked on has as much torque and more hoarspower per weight as the 701. A smaller, four rotor engine would have too little torque. I don't want to jack this thread so, If anyone else wants to discuss the rotary, please check out my 300 hybrid tread and post your thoughts.

Hope your paper went well.

Just letting everyone who helped out know that i appreciate all the help and I also did very well on my speech... haven't gotten a grade but teacher gave a lot of compliments. Thanks

Not trying to argue, but this sounds like mis-information. 1) I seriously doubt that Kawi would lose that much profit to stay in the stand-up market for even a year. and 2) For a while there the stand-up producers were allowed to use "fleet" averaging to keep producing the 2-strokes, which would mean more 4-stroke couches, not less, if you wanted to make a stand up.

Now if you're talking about 2-stroke couches which run cleaner than a stand-up, then I suppose I could see the 7 to 1 argument (seems very high though), but that still presumes you had a buyer for those 7 units.

They can make as many sit downs as they want. The problem was they couldn't sell enough big boring turds to average out and still make more than a one model 2 stroke. That doesn't matter anymore because the EPA law no longer allows averaging for PWCs. So now they will just make big boring turds. Whoot! That's what we get when we buy in to all this green propaganda crap. Big boring turds that use twice the fuel for half the fun. Way to go big brother. Glad you are looking out for us!
