Will a flooded Rickter Float or Sink???

WOW! This is news to me!! WTH no way man!!!! We all know these skis NEED to friggin float or at least be neutrally buoyant.

I am blown away here. NO reason in the world why a ski should not float.

???You watched zach's stunt drop like a rock!

Only stock superjets float and its tail up barely visible!

“To foam or not to foam, that is the question” Shakespeare’s theory
Neutral buoyancy (sorry Mat) means:
“Neutral buoyancy occurs when an object's average density is equal to the density of the fluid in which it is immersed, resulting in the buoyant force balancing the force of gravity that would otherwise cause the object to sink or rise. An object that has neutral buoyancy will neither sink nor rise.”
So you want a ski to stay just a few feet under the water and drift away.Kind of feels like that that old song by Henry Gross,”Shannon”

If the ski sinks, for the most part it won’t be to far from where she went under depending on the currents. How much foam can you actually add to one to make it float? Most shortened skis will not have enough room under the tray for foam.Aftermarket handlepoles have no foam.So more dead weight, plus the other components, pump, engine, etc.

Never have built a ski with foam and probably won’t.And you guys with pool noodles, have you ever had your ski sink or just deliberately sunk your ski to see what it will do?

Please,more debate!!

Goal of the pool noodles is to buy more time to get the ski towed out before it sinks.

I read on a boat forum that each noodle will float 8lbs.

Well we all tried to warn him ahead of that!

But OEM equivalents or hell all hull for that matter these days needs to float!! And exactly because we have all seen what happens when they don't!

I can see if you order a kit and decide for yourself but no way should our top 2 or 3 aftermarket hull builders be friggin shipping skis that sink! Ahhhhg!

Not helpful when you can't reach how far down it goes, which is a concern here with our lakes. Also, if your in the ocean and don't have some way to mark the location, your screwed. I'd rather have it float so I can go get it.

One of our guys sank that stunt hull in 7' waves in 7' of water and we all over instantly as well as the next day and beyond. It was never seen again.

I've often thought a tray without foam possessing drain plugs would be the best. Then you know if a tray leaks. The only time this would be a disadvantage is if you broke the tray and it sunk right then and there. I'm currently dealing with an fr2 full of pink foam but the foam is wet. How wet? Who knows? I got it dried somewhat through time, a hole, and compressed air. I considered putting in plugs just to know. But would you know? If water doesn't travel to the plugs with all that foam you don't know. Maybe no foam is best.

Anyone ever consider some type of float bag like a kayak in the engine bay?

That is basically what the retriever system was/is.

I thought there was some life vest also. They had co2 built into them Something you could mount under the hood and infate if needed. Of course your hood poops off then you are screwed.
