300/440/550 Won't stay running

Hey guy and gals I just bought a 1989 kawasaki 650 sx. This is the first stand up ski I have owned. It has been sitting for over a year. It will start with the help of starting fluid but wont stay running long. This ski has a few different mods like a primer, westcoast pipe, flame arrestor, aftermarket aluminum water box, and maybe a aftermarket carb not to sure I am still learning. My question is since it has been sitting what do I need to do to make it run good. the guy did say it would smoke his 92 750 so I am excitied to see how good she can really run. Your advice would be much apperciated.

well id start by pulling the carb off and cleaning it out real good and possibly rebuilding it if needed. Id also clear all the fuel lines out and make sure theres no junk in them and any fuel filters. Is the gas turned on? Did you try reserve yet? Maybe you have a pickup problem. Just a few suggestions.

rebuild the carb, replace fuel lines, fuel filter, and buy new gas. Best to play it safe with replacing the fuel line because u dont want a crack in them when ur riding. Thats another thing to... a crack in the fuel lines can cause ur ski to have a vaccum leak. Also make sure ur fuel lines are going where they need to go... and make sure there is fuel getting to the carb. Good luck
