I find it a little amusing that showing up to this event is what is considered progress and out of one's comfort zone. Do you think those Scarecrows and superflips are inside someone's comfort zone? Plenty of people get well out of their comfort zone and never even attempt to win prize money of seek and fame or publicity.

Trying to justify a several thousand dollar trip by pointing to an expensive ski is a little more than silly. If the venue was appropriate, there would have been numerous people out there going for this record. Don't think there wouldn't have been. And I highly doubt a couple backflips would sell 100 new skis at the dealership. This isn't NASCAR in the 50's where it was win on Sunday, sell on Monday. Too many people are fat and lazy and don't have the expendable income to drop on a toy that requires a great deal of effort to learn to ride. They'll just go buy a couch instead.

There is one thing no one has touched on. I'm treading softly here so dont crucify me lol. I would imagine that for Guinness to pay to fly a judge out there, put him up in a hotel, and pay his wage to judge the event, someone would have had to show Guinness that there were competitors already committed to showing up. I mean, think about it. Its not like some kid could be like, "hey Guinness, ill bet there are gonna be some dudes flipping out here. Why dont you come watch" and then they would be all "that sounds great! lets invest a couple thousand nto trip costs and hope someone shows!" So i guess what i am getting at is who organized this and dropped the ball, or who committed to showing up and didnt show? I am not in any way insulting anyone or saying freestyle guys were obligated to show. I wouldnt blame any competitor for not forking out their hard earned cash to travel out to a crappy location for a novelty prize of being in the Guinness book of world records. Just saying it sounds like someone committed and bailed. Does anyone know the story?

But its gueniss they have more money than a competitor so of course they are going to throw up a couple g's to hope someone comes out according to how the OP make it sound

I know they have a bunch of money but from what i have seen in life, companies dont just throw money around unless there is a calculated risk. Hell, i work for a 3 billion dollar a year company and the cheap bastards wont even give me a new computer without ample facts to justify the increased productivity lol. You may be right though Byeai, maybe they figured "what do we have to lose?"

What i also dont understand, is why dont they just show up to world finals when all of the top competators are already there? Im makes no sense. Seems like a total flop in planning.

Jace Forest...BRAP!
They will be at world finals. That was my main reason for not going to Reno, I stated it earlier in this thread.
Not only will Guinness be at worlds but, whoever wins it will have deserved it because there will be many guys going for the record...and there will be a payout.
Kind of a no brainer

Surely Guinness has certified judges in locations all over the world. I have a hard time believing that all of the judges commute to work at GWR headquarters. It seems a little silly to spend thousands to confirm every record from cup stacking to jet ski back flips. The judge probably travelled no more than a hundred miles or so. That's just my guess.

...And its funny to hear guys complain about a 'couple grand" when they ride a 20g+ boat.. the REAL problem is no one can handle the 'challenge' of the elevation...which leads me back to the post that seemed to piss everyone off: Freestylers CAN be premadonnas........just wanna ride in 'perfect' power conditions. challenge yourselves, and open some eyes to our sport that don't live at the beach. im pretty sure stand ups would make more of a come-back, and in turn, makes things more affordable for the sport in a whole, if you talented riders would adapt to different situations ( i.e. elevation) and show what these 'skis can do, ANYWHERE. this is a great sport, and it only gets better w more riders (duh), so lets not forget that goal :)
I guess you have never competed before. There is no such thing as having "perfect" conditions........ Humidity, Temperature, water conditions, every watched a video from World Finals, rarely is it smooth..............

But at that altitude, you may pull 10 flips but run out of power, if you even pulled that many, Now go to Lake Havasu, Some Lake in Florida, Demopolis Alabama, yes, Tricky is pulling 7+ flips in a row if not more...... Virginia, anywhere else where you are at 400' above sea level. You will find people and ski's that can pull 15-20 flips......... Having a record set somewhere where the altitude is going to limit your power output is really not a wise location.

This will bring people and sell more skis and it gives a pay out
