Blaster WOT. How long is too long on a Blaster

Who said "can't"? I simply stated he said he doesn't recommend WOT of more than 6 - 10 seconds at a pop. I'm pretty confident in his ability to build a great motor. I've seen his work and his carbon fiber blaster is a monster.

That's why I came on here to see what other people thought. I don't really run WOT for long periods of time, but I used to run WOT for several minutes at a time prior to the rebuild. The pistons that came out of the ski were pretty scarred up. He stated this was due to overheating and the fact that they were older Wiseco pistons. He said the Pro-X pistons would be much more durable.

Properly warmed up Wisecos will be more durable than OEM, Pro-X, pretty much almost anything out there.

so I checked the compression. Granted she wasn't running for more than a few minutes on the hose, but I got 190psi in both cylinders. My mechanic did change my HSJ to a 140 from the 138 I had in there prior to the work.

Ski has been running great since the rebuild. Never gets scorching hot and seems fine all through the revs. The only issue I am having now is I am ingesting water into the carb more frequently than I used to. I used to have a bent aluminum inlet on the carb that leaned in towards the head with a F/A and skirt. He swapped it out for or a straight F/A mount. I will have to see what I can do to limit the water splashing into the carb after submerging the nose too much.

I'm running a 500gph bilge and just ordered a versiplug.

Running WOT with too much compression and too much timing advance for extended periods of time is asking for disaster but as stated earlier you can tune for this. Adding a little fuel to run rich on top will be safer than lean and will keep the combustion cooler. You also have dual cooling now which keeps engine temps in check a little better. Depends on your riding style too... If youre running 190-200 lbs compression then you probably like freestyle/freeriding and want a lot of braap down low and dont typically run WOT all day at top speed... Theres a difference between running WOT at top speed and clamping it to launch off waves too. Your setup sounds fine to me as long as your not going for top speed runs all day.

My 2 cents, get a tach on the engine and I'll bet you'll see very little change in rpm from 3/4 to full throttle not to mention what you actual feel riding. more air will just lean out the mixture and boom. My 2 cents and experience with 2 stroke snowmobiles.

That depends on port timing, jetting, rev limiter, prop pitch, engine power output and flywheel rotating mass. Theres a lot of factors that come into play for max RPM compared to throttle demand
