Would skis running too hot cause detonation?

In the past week, we have had two 650 x-2's and a 701 superjet drop one cylinder to detonation.
Both the x-2s had single cooling and both the pisser water and the motors were very very hot and the lake water is almost to hot to be in! The skis all ran great until one of the pistons losses compression

The carbs all seemed to be in good shape. Just wondering what to do before we blow more pistons!

the plugs in mine look like the tuning/jetting is spot on. the single cooling line was coming out the back cylinder, and i lost the front cylinder. wondering if a simple dual cooling line will fix my problem! well.... after a top end first. lol

Yes, a hotter running engine with borderline cooling will loose power and will need to be jetted leaner to run correctly, then this setup can lead to detonation if strict timing and compression rules are not followed.
