Wrist pin wear

I am putting a new crank in my xscream 865 engine and noticed that although my cylinders and pistons are fine, my wrist pins have light grooves in them.

New wrist pin bearings come with my crank. Can I just replace the wrist pins alone or do I have to get new Pistons too?

Bigger bores tend to wear out wrist pins bearings quicker. If the compression is good and the pistons/piston pins look fine, I'd just put in new wrist pin bearings. How many hours do you have on your pistons?

No idea because I bought the ski used. Compression is fine and equal on both cylinders. I tore it down because I felt some rough bearings in the bottom end.
Upon inspection the wrist puins themselves have wear. I would hate to put new bearings on a untrue surface. Are they available?

XS865 use special wrist pin bearings. Yes, wrist pins can be bought separately.

look at the lines on the outside edge of piston between the top and the first ring where they pass over the exh port. if crank was toasty and wristpins are worn, prolly be best to play it on the safe side......

Few things to consider. Older xscream pistons use the larger seadoo 951 wrist pin diameter and should use oem seadoo cage less wrist pin bearings. Newer xscream 865-900 SS pistons use the smaller wrist pin and should use OEM honda CR500 wrist pin bearings. If you bought an after market crank and are thinking of using the wrist pin bearing that came with it id consider using either of the OEM bearings i listed above (which ever applies to the pistons your have) . Its cheap insurance. SBT cranks have been amazing for the value but anytime the pistons weigh more then stock i dont use the wrist pin bearings that come with the after market cranks. On a race engine about 15 years ago i had an aftermarket wrist pin bearing literally saw a motor in half when the bearing locked up. Since then ive been weary of A/M wrist pin bearings.....

theres been more than a few of these type motors get near cut in half when rods break, likely caused by long term detonation and wear on a failed wrist pin bearing
