x-metal waterbox

Just trying to get some reviews on the x-metal waterbox. How do they sound? Is it easy to install with the front exhaust kit and any other helpful info.

It's not that loud. The guy I ride with has one and it has a really cool, unique deep sound. Only slightly loauder than stock. It's not raspy or high-pitched annoyingly loud. I had one but sent it back for him to redo one of the baffles (mine was the first production one and he had some trouble with baffles coming loose on the first few, but fixed it). With the XMetal box, the front exhaust T is built into it. If you don't want to run front exhaust then you can plug it with a Nybco fitting from Home Depot. The XMetal box holds less water than stock too, lightening up the front of the ski.

What type of material is the nibco fitting and how is it secured?
Not sure of the exact material, but it is fuelproof. I used one for a couple seasons as a fuel tank blockoff without problems. You can find them in the Home Depot plumbing section. They are caps used for plumbing and they come with stainless clamps.

Does a waterbox give any noticable throttle response gains?

No HP gain... It is like 10 lbs lighter and Makes an awesome low BRAP.. It is not loud, TDR, AND some others are louder... The Xmetal waterbox is the shiztnat... I love the thing.. unique sound and no complaints... and I got a ton of bunny huggers around here too !

I give it =

So, what are "cutouts" and "mechanical baffles" as mentioned in this code? And by "at or below the water line", anyone know if this means during normal operation or at rest?

From the code of va beach:
Sec. 6-109. Muffling devices for motor boats.
(a) The exhaust of every internal combustion engine used on any motor boat on the waters within the city shall be effectively muffled by equipment so constructed and used as to muffle the noise of the exhaust in a reasonable manner. The muffling device shall exhaust at or below the water line or it shall be equipped with mechanical baffles. The use of cutouts is prohibited, except as approved by the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries or the U.S. Coast Guard.
(b) Any person convicted of violating this section shall be punished by a fine of not more than two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00).
(Code 1965, § 6-17; Ord. No. 2690, 4-23-02)

a cut out is a tee in your exhaust with a removable cap that can dump exhaust into the open air.

sounds to me like you wouldn't be in any legal trouble if you bought one. the only thing to worry about is the "in a reasonable manner".

I've gotten "the look" from a few people since I installed mine---I love the way it sounds, but some people see it as obnoxious.

I've been thinking about getting one of those "Loud Pipes Save Lives" stickers and putting it on my helmet. :sneaky:

Really---it's not that bad. When I slow down to pass the tourist boats (Dolphin Tour boats, SeaScreamer, Pirate Ship, Etc.) the nose rides up and accentuates the exhaust. Some of the peeps give the thumbs up and others stick their fingers in their ears, being sarcastic.

It's definately quieter than a TDR I used to run...

CAnt be any louder than a alum waterbox like FPP with a b pipe(alum chamber), can it?

I love the sound of my square with a Fischer alum waterbox and B pipe chamber/ltd.

If you don't have a front exhaust it's only a tad louder than stock, and by louder, once again, it's not crispy/raspier, but rather deep/rumblier louder (sorry, those are the best descriptive words I could find).

If you have the additional front exhaust hooked up it's a little louder than the OEM box with front exhaust, but once again, not terribly.
