650/X-2 X2 jumps on plane then looses power

Location

I recently bought a 1990 650 x2 everythings stock except for bars and the choke was removed off the bars. Got it running on the stand at home then took it to the river a couple days later and it ran fine until the exhaust came in two where there is two clamps next to eachother (dont know all the terminology yet). Fixed that and it ran fine until it bogged while pulling into shore. Took it down river ran fine then bogged out and died. Loaded it up at another boat ramp and took it home. Tank built up a vacuum and the water seperater was plugged. Unplugged that runs fine out of water but in water it jumps right on plane and then bogs down to idle. Took it home again checked fuel pump diaphrams, carb diaphram, jets, changed plugs and fuel pump pumps fuel when line is removed. Took it to the river yet again messed with carb settings one time it ran around for a couple minutes then back to the same old thing. Runs fine out of water, even in water as long as youre not on it. It gets on plane then bogs back to idle and will do it over and over til it dies. Long winded but im trying to give as much info as possible i have seen a lot of similar posts but none exactly the same. Any help is appreciated

Pull that water separated off and put it in the trash. Just run a tank vent.

Go to pwctoday.com go to the X2 section and just start reading. The X is much more yami and aftermarket Hull guys.

Still haven't figured out the problem... Runs fine on stand and blips of gas in the water but when you hop on and take off it loses power and goes to idle or dies

Sounds like its not getting enough fuel. Run your fuel line from your tank directly to your carb. Bypass the fuel switch. Try that, if not replace the diaphram in your carb.

Really Clean the fuel channels in the Carb, there is a filter in that may be blocked.
If the Tank Holds pressure, make sure the Fuel pickups are not cracked.
Check your Waterbox, make sure it has not rusted out.
Is it Premix, or Oil Injected?
Does water come out the Bypass while riding?

You should post some pics and vid. Sounds like you are not getting enough fuel, could be a clog in high speed jet or the internal filter, crack in one of the fuel lines that remember are 24 years old, is the carb base gasket torn from pulling the carb to clean it? Won't hurt to buy a full carb rebuild. There is a great how to on pwc on squeezing power out of the old 650s on a budget. It's worth a read to help get an understanding of the things that can go wrong and you would be surprised how easily you can wake that motor up. Also groupk has good write ups.

It's premix and where's the filter in the carb? I'm gonna order a rebuild here soon and try that out its a tad chilly in oregon for a video at the moment... What about is good carb settings for the 28mm carb about 1000ft elevation?

before you buy a rebuild for the stock carb you might want to think about just replacing it all together with a larger carb. other guys can chime in on what you can get away with size wise without replacing the stock intake manifold just simply boring it to size. 40mm keihn? this wont help you fix your issue but if the stock carb is in bad shape it wount hurt.

Start it up with hood off then hold a rag over the exhaust. If it starts blowing smoke into the engine compartment then you have an exhaust leak.
