XFS/XFR in the surf?

Are they unrideable in the surf? Do they need a longer ride plate?

I'm looking for 90% flat water boat, just don't want something I can't use in mild surf (up to 6ft)

You need to speak with Tayor Curtis on that, my understanding is a long rideplate for surf and a short one for flat.

JR Freestyle and some others have ridden them in Great lakes surf. I have about 10 mins on one in 2-3 chop slop. Thought it was fine for me. Wish i had more time on it

I have ridden TC's XFR with Dasa 1100 and 155 mag pump... it can be quite the handfull. But I was impressed with how linear the power was. I went to the lake with Taylor and he taught me how to flatwater flip it and the two days prior to that I rode it at Pismo. in pismo it was only 3-4 ft. big enough to barely flip my RN. and I rode TC's XFR and with all the power you could go ape chit. but if you let the ski ride to its potential with tight turning capabilities, floaty feel, awesome "pop" and solid footprint in the water you could ride the heck out of it. If you tried to force things instead of just cruise it. thats where you felt like a re re eating hot wings. just a mess. So I would love to have one set up for the lake but that I can ride in the surf when its underhead. It also makes tricks like the underflip re-entry doable like Taylor showed. I can't imagine thrashing one in 15 footers. if you went for big arials you would be doing double back attempts on accident for sure. Taylor does an awesome job at boosting but controlling his riding. It is a small hull, but the best small hull I have ridden so far.

For surf i imagine it doesn't need a big engine, but for this combination on freestyle-freeride jetski which engine should it have (using pump gas)? And which pump size would be best?

How does it compare to the FR2 in the surf?

Imo the fr-2 and xfr are totaly different skis. They both have the same style nose but thats where it ends. I still hear fr-2 for surf only and xfs for flatwater. They are both capable skis in both conditions but the real question is what are you trying to accomplish? If its fw bfs then buy somehing for that and learn how to ride it in the surf. If you afe stabbing and trying to learn how to roll then buy a sj or fr-2 or similar. Didnt want to include other builders here as all he is asking about are rickters

I ride the rickter xfs in the surf all the time short ride plate handles and hold up great if you have an instagram u can check it out my name it @Bryshady.... I rode a xfr great to my personal i like 10 min from flat wayer and boat wakes and 4hr from surf i run a 701 b-pipe dasa head, 2mm bore and advert ignition and can flip no problem off of boat wakes and great for surf. All in the rider i say i love a short boat personally

Texas surf is a washing machine and usally no bigger than 6 ft so its perfect for me plus im a small guy so It fits me well.
In overhead plus it can be a handful and can get messy quick if you try and force it.
