Best advice is to cut small then keep trying the footholds and trimming till you get it right. It's easy to trim a bit more off, and a pain on the butt to cover up gaps if you cut too much.

I never had a template. sorry. I just eyeballed it. just lke SJbrit said, trim a lil at a time and its all good.....but that pic will give you a good starting idea.

Good luck if you get them at all with him.... you dont have them already? I thought you have em....? He is a very very sketchy guy to deal with, his products are awesome but they are a pain in the a$$ to deal with. You order, place your paypal, cross your fingers and your parts might show up in a month or two....I ride with guys that are sponsored by XFT and they still dont get their parts....! They are well worth the wait. I think I got mine in about 4 weeks after ordering but I paid for expedited shipping (expensive!!).
I don't have a foot hold fetish .......... but you do have have nice looking feet . I do love the way your middle toe ..... never mind , I digress , back on topic .
Looking for a new mouse trap . I felt like the xft's were placed to far back for my taste and wanted some adjustability after riding in the surf ( I love the ability to adjust the fore and aft it completely changes the center of gravity ) . They are However , the most comfortable hold period IMO . Got a little project going to adapt the xft to the RRP . It's been on hold awhile I might get cracking on it this week.
Yes I added a little padding to make it deeper and more comfy .... I like it . Really comes in handy for chasing down boats .
Agree . Also get the right tool for the right job . If you use a fine type tool it will make the job a lot easer . Drimmels / grinders will do , but they are grossly insufficient . Multi tools offer way more control for precise cuts . The closer you trim the less glassing etc and the better the install.

Look at the heel wedge manfish has in the rear of the tray . Play around with this idea don't be afraid to extend it further into the hold opening . I think more heel wedge with theses holds put's you at a more comfortable angle . This idea was actually suggested by Sergio .
Maybe I do have a foot hold fetish ............ have you seen Shanes middle toe ? It is simply the most magnificent ......... never mind
