46's seem to work just fine. We swapped on a set of full specs the other weekend and they were good too. Not $1200 better though. :)

I never tried anything but 46's. They were great for me in a surf application. I'm sure for flatwater with total loss and power factor type pipe you would want 48-50mm annular discharge carbs though.

lnteresting you ask.Just got done setting up a set of 49 full specs on my ss865.They work great.Started out with 48 novi's,which seem to work fine, but FS's are a ton more linear than the novis.Strong all the way thru the power band without the bpipe surge.lf you buy anything, get the full spec's,they are Cadillac's compared to anything else

I had the same debate when I was building my ski. Dollar for dollar the 46's are very hard to beat. I personally think the extra thousand plus dollars would be better spent else where then putting big money carbs on a "small" SS motor. I have not ridden an 865 with FS's, but I cannot imagine it would be better than adding a TL system, or stroker crank, or PFP/RRP pipe for just about the same out-of-pocket cost. Just my opinion though.

I currently have full spec 49's on my 827. It does hit nice but I feel it is just a tad too big of a carb for that engine. Still runs well but was thinking idling and all around performance might be improved with 46's. Peak power may suffer but all around might be more crisp. I think it will improve as cc's increase so I don't think it's worth changing.

I was even thinking full spec 46's would be killer, but I agree sbn 46's are very hard to beat.

I found the same thing to be true, the 49s meter fantastic and tuned right will be much more of a linear hit than anything else Ive tried. That said on a 865 running a bpipe, dollar for dollar you would make way more power with a pfp or rrp pipe and 46s,for just a bit more money or close to the same cost after considering bpipe resale. Just depends on how much money you want to throw at it long term
