Hi guys,

Can anybody elaborate on why would a smaller diameter 140mm vs oem 144mm, be better for e.g. freestyle? Is is the main advantege in the form of greater thrust? What would be the results of installing a mag pump to an OEM ski??

Thanks!

From my understanding bigger is better to a point. OEM 144 is perfect. However, I guess a 140 mag (because of its design) flows just as much water as a 144 making it equal. But supposedly better in the ocean chop.

I have ridden both and I notice no difference in fresh water.

I see, I thought that bigger is better.... however I notice a lot of skat pumps in pro FS skis... that is why I asked in the first place...still for me it is strange = more hp = need to flow more water = larger diameter pump, NOT smaller (140mm)... anybody else??

It is just a different design. most Mag 140's are 12 vein, these pumps really help with hookup. But they have a downside. They are very heavy. I would not recommend one (Mag 140) unless you were running some serious power. At minimum Big Bore Flat Top, Stroker or Lamey.

I know back when Waterdawg Kustomz had a ton of my cash and I supposidly had a 1200CC coming, he was recommending a 144 Mag Pump for that setup.

For what it's worth...

I would definitely think that if you were going to spend the major money on a mag pump, you'd get a 144mm mag instead of a 140...just my thoughts thuogh.

If you didn't notice a difference, something was not set up correctly.

Contrary to urban legend, a 140 mag is only about 5 lbs heavier than an OE pump. Even a stock boat will work better with a mag if the prop/nozzle combo is just right. For the record, I'm not suggesting a mag should be one of the first mods on a boat.

i would stay away from a 140mm pump and especially if it's not set back.how many veins in it?

The 140 is the the best all around pump money can buy for a superjet. Setback, non setback, 6, 12, or 14 vane; all are very good. I'll bet you money that you can't feel a difference between any of them if they're all set up equally. It takes a really big motor(haven't ridden it yet) before the 140 is not enough pump. The 140 is really tolerant of prop/nozzle size and will work good with almost any combo. The bigger mags can be less forgiving and more difficult to optimize.

5 lbs is too much for me, especially at the rear of the ski. Dont get me wrong, they are great pumps. I just dont have a need for one.

This coming from my buddy that dont like total loss either-BAWAAAAAAAA.

JK, I am totally happy w/my oem pump, but, I loves me some MSD T/L. Speaking of pumps, remind my dum azz to send you my hooker to try. She gets real expensive and dont call her anything but Cheryl or you will have a black eye. She can be really mean at times. LOL

i had one on my old royal flush boat....I could tell the difference between stock and mag any day of the week..

night and day difference!

with the mag the back of the hull was GLUED to the water..much more difficult to unhook it than a stock 144

100% hookup in pure whitewater....ZERO cavitation EVER

this was on a very heavily ported 701..

For the record, I'm not suggesting a mag should be one of the first mods on a boat.

I would suggest that it would be one of the last for sure.

The one I rode connected the same as my OEM 144 13/16-3 in fresh water. Which means it was set up good cuz my chit rips. They just rip the same. Identical IMO. Granted it was NICE waves in Cleveland that day. No chop....just clean and nice!

I have always heard they are for salt chop and race chop.

Hey Gil, I think I have more than proven that I can rip it up with just an 84mm Big Bore 61X Cylinder, MSD Enhancer and plain old 44mm dual mikuni's. Dont need the Lameys or the 4mm Jetworks to prove anything........

Plus, I dont have nearly invested what you do and I can Roll...........:AR15firing::Banane36::wave:

Send me that Hooker sometimes, I will take her for a ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having used to have owned one of Parrs old skis, I can tell you he is no teacher. When I got the ski it wouldn't do half of the stuff it used to. Maybe the skis just like him better than us and have developed some sort of co-dependent loyalty.:dunno: Finally I just gave the damn thing away.
