Yamaha 144 Pump Review

Writing a quick review. Just installed a bolt-on 144 pump to my fx1. I am using the stock 122 shoe, not bored out at all.

The pump came with an old waveblaster prop. Keep in mind that on my 122 pump, I had a new skat swirl 17/22 w/ a kick (reccomended by dave at impros) becuse I am at 5,000 ft above sea level. I also had a wet-wolf pump cone.

I hit the water, and gotta say I am dissappointed. Ski does not feel as snappy as before. It had almost the same feel, but I was expecting an improvement at least. It feels like I lost a little bit of bottom end power. Ski did run strong in mid-top range.

I think I am gonna hit up impros and get a hooker, pitched right for my elevation. Hopefully this will make the pump outperform the 122 pump, I will update the review when I get it installed.

If anybody has any comments/advice, please feel free!

I think you should bore out your stock shoe , when I fitted my 144 , I did and it has made a huge improvement in overall acceleration. By leaving it stock you are restricting / starving the bigger pump of water , kinda makes the whole switchover a bit pointless ......

Install new bearings when you get that prop off, as recommended. Instead of spending more than the price of the pump on a prop from Impros, go with an 08+stock Sj prop. I paid 110shipped for my last one and it was mint compared to your blaster prop.

I was thinking stock blaster pitch. Not sure about the skat.[/

I went through the same thing, Blaster prop. Feels like its stuck in 6th gear! Was not super impressed with the 144 and I did it with a 144 pump shoe, it really shines in the surf though - once you get in the white water (bubbles) its like night and day! Been riding it over propped but looking for a different prop, I'm using the stock blaster prop. The stock 122 pump has its applications! Remember FX1's were like 50/51 mph out of the box! I'll bet a 144 shoe, tunnel mod, and the right prop will let you know all that work was worth it.

I just got my hands on an extra 122 shoe, that I will bore out to 144 or as far as I can and put it in next time I have the engine out. Hopefully the the hooker will make a big difference.
